PAST ANNOUNCEMENTS
Covering the years 2002-2003
---------------------------------------------------------------------
The DFSX Top 100 of 2003
Miss it? Sorry. It will appear sometime again this year.
BUT...I asked several dozen voters to send in the answers to
the quiz related to people listening to the countdown before
1/9/04. 105 qualified people were sent e-mails. Only 31 responded,
and of those, we have four winners who got the minimum 15 correct
answers to qualify and who beat out the others (three had perfect
20's) vying for the same prizes as they were.
Winners:
James wins four Dr. Demento mp3 CDs of my choosing.
Chachi Jones: wins the Michael Bolton CD (for his skeet shooting)
Richard Berger: wins "The Very Best of Stan Freberg"
Tom Monday: wins "Van Halen 3"
All others who sent in the quiz answers got less than 10 correct,
many of which copied the Top 10 Funny 25 of 2003 list from
the Dr. Demento Show.
Prizes not awarded will be carried over to the Demented Music
Poll 2004 contest beginning in December.
---------------------------------------------------------------------
WHY "I STILL GET DEMENTED"
I chose the name because back in the year 2000, two of the longtime
San Diego radio icons, John Fox, who retired to sell autos, and
Phil Flowers, who was producing "Hooked on Trivia" on KCBQ until
he passed away in December, co-hosted the local radio show
about the history of San Diego's KCBQ called "I Still Q in My Car"
making a statement that people still listened to the radio station
long after the glory days of the "Q", which was once a top-rated
rock-leaning Top 40 station, ended two decades ago.
The name "I Still Get Demented" not only is a making of a statement
that people still listen to the radio for funny songs on regular
radio stations like they once did when they were all over Top 40
and for the weekly Dr. Demento show, but it's also a rebellious
cry that people defy what the humorless radio programmers don't
want them to listen to: music that makes people laugh and think.
What a novel idea.
"ISGD", with your help, will find obscure records and recent
crazy cuts that got airplay just once on Dr. Demento and elsewhere
and expose them worldwide on the Internet for the first time,
getting their second chance at fame decades after they have long
been forgotten.
---------------------------------------------------------------------
TOO NEW TO REVIEW
Joe Giacoio "Superman's Midlife Crisis"
http://www.joegiacoio.com has the info.
Cuts include "It's a Man's World", "A Man's Hair Is His Castle",
and "Women's Clothing"
thanks to Carla Ulbrich for the reccomendation. I'll try to get
this album featured on the 7th or 8th November show of ISGD
---------------------------------------------------------------------
NEW CD by DA YOOPERS
"Songs For Fart Lovers" is the newest CD by our friends Da Yoopers,
famous for many songs that got played over the past 15 years
on Dr. Demento, Jim Zippo, and most everywhere else that features
funny music. It contains 19 songs including one for Christmas,
as well as songs like "She Loves to Fart", "Pucker and Smell,"
"I'm a Turd", "A Fart Can Be a Friend", and more.
http://www.dayoopers.com
It's the first complete album of "all original" songs about farting,
songs that speak the true essence of farts and asks these age
old questions: Where do farts come from? Why don't you ever hear
your Mother fart? If you fart in church, will you go to hell?
And other questions as it says in the press kit.
"Songs For Fart Lovers" by Da Yoopers available now, and will be
showing up on DFSX Comedy Radio shortly.
---------------------------------------------------------------------
NEW CD by THE KWIFFS
"The New Fred Gwynne" is the latest production of The Kwiffs.
Find their website by typing their name in a search engine.
Songs include "I Wanna Be The New Fred Gwynne," "Put The Baby in
a Cannon," and "My Name is Jim Hannigan."
---------------------------------------------------------------------
JUST IN -- NEW SONG BY SLIM ROACH
http://www.iwantlovewritenow.com/ (c), yes, he copyrighted the name
Slim Roach has a new song that was just received at the DFSX
Radio HQ with his new song "I Want Love Write Now" by Slim
Roach and The Smoochers on Bozo Row Records.

and to sign the guestbook.
---------------------------------------------------------------------
IT'S NEW TO YOU: BROBDINGNAGIAN BARDS - 'A FAIRE TO REMEMBER'
This CD is two years old, yet the only songs Dr. Demento are
Donald, Where's Your Trousers?/What Do You Do with a Drunken
Sailor?
Well, there's more songs worth playing such as "Wild Rover",
"The Scotsman", "Always Look on the Bright Side of Life",
"If I Had a Million Ducats", and more. DFSX will be adding some
of the songs from this newly-acquried album as soon as we get
enough room in the remote hard drive by dropping the older songs
first as they get voted down.
http://www.thebards.net is where to go for more CDs.
---------------------------------------------------------------------
WHEN IS THIS STATION UPDATED?
Due to NFL football, the radio station updates will be on
Saturday nights after 9pm instead of Sunday mornings in order to
accomodate my busy schedule.
---------------------------------------------------------------------
NEW CD by JIM's BIG EGO
Just this past week, I received a new CD by Jim's Big Ego
called "They're Everywhere!" whose cover and CD is in the style
of a comic book. Songs such as "They're Everywhere", "Math Prof
Rock Star", "The Ballad of Barry Allen", and others will be
premiering on DFSX as soon as I can give them a rip and upload
and will be showcased in a late October edition of "ISGD"
Meanwhile, you can visit his website below...

OUT OF LEFT FIELD
Lots of good suggestions keep coming in, but I only have time
to play one song a week. Thanks for the suggestions.
Sorry, there are no plans to turn it into a weekly show.
Hint: the songs must be not boring or whatever else makes me
want to throw up or get out a baseball bat to smash the radio.
It also helps if it's an original song that was parodied.
It's also got to be upbeat and fun, but not demented.
Send your song suggestions in today!
---------------------------------------------------------------------
UPGRADED DFSX SERVER...now 434 MB!
Now that we gotten enough money to upgrade the storage space
on the DFSX space, we're thinking of more kinds of shows to add
to the lineup of DFSX Comedy Radio. We're working on many show
ideas to produce and upload. What do you think?
Also...added more listener ports so 100 people can listen for
free, or if you have Live 365's Preferred Membership, this
limitation does not apply to you.
Want even more MB's on DFSX? This means more songs, and
consequently, less often you'll hear some of the newer songs,
sometimes it won't get played during the entire day. We currently
have a 19 hour randomized playlist. Is it too big or too small?
---------------------------------------------------------------------
THE KAHNMAN COMEDY CORNER HAS A YAHOO GROUP
Check it out here...
http://groups.yahoo.com/group/kahnmansplace
NOTE: his special has been moved to Sep 29 where he hosts four hours
of ISGD. Anyone in dementia land wish to host their own one-shot
four-hour special on DFSX?

COMPETETING DEMENTED RADIO SHOWS
This has been brought up in rec.music.dementia. The longtime
funny music radio show, Nummy Muffin Cocoa Butter (see
http://www.nummymuffincocoabutter.com for archived shows), for
example, airs at the same time as two other shows Thursdays
at 8pm ET / 5pm PT. Here's the rundown...
Nummy Muffin Cocoa Butter
http://www.nummymuffincocoabutter.com/
airs on KVRX 91.7, Austin, TX;
http://www.kvrx.org
How to recognize different types of trees from quite a long way away
http://www.geocities.com/howtorecognize/index.html
airs on WTPL 610 AM
http://wtpl.tusculum.edu/
Tony Goldmark's The Looney Bin
http://www.dqydj.com/
airs on Land of Dementia channel
http://www.TheLandOfDementia.com/
Is this the magic hour of dementia? 8pm Eastern? It worked for
Friends on NBC for nine years. Maybe nobody watches TV at this
hour and people want to hear something funny instead. At least
Tony's show is repeated three hours later. I'm not sure if
the Trees show is archived on his website, but 11 shows of the
Nummy show is archived.
Well, in this universe, you can't have too many demented and
funny music shows.
---------------------------------------------------------------------
NEW CDS by CHASTON AND GRODITSKI
http://www.chastongroditski.com
Chaston and Groditski who first became famous on Dr. Demento
way back in 1998 with their "We Burned The Christmas Tree"
is releasing their second CD called "Rugged Hoarhadees"
Some of the songs included are "We Were Raised in Warsaw Poland",
"The Ants Are Here", "Tell Me, Jelly Donut", "Brain Sdghot",
and "We Roasted Santa Claus". Some of the songs will be playing
on DFSX and ISGD beginning the week of September 8th.
ALSO
RICHARD TRIBLE http://www.richardtrible.com, who had his version
of "Closer" played, sent a solo album that's a little Weird Al-ish
sometimes, some is like Frank Zappa, but with less musical
discipline according to the website.
Is this album "Love, Sex, and Other Messy Things" destined to
be a cult classic? You, the listener, be the judge, as cuts from
the album get spun on DFSX in the near future.
---------------------------------------------------------------------
WORST ALBUM EVER RELEASED 7/26/03
the great Luke Ski just released his latest album six months
early! Get the details at http://www.lukeski.com
---------------------------------------------------------------------
NEW OPENING THEME FOR ISGD
Out goes the generic piano tune I taped from a 1972 Zoom series.
In comes in a brand new opening montague featuring the instrumental
from Weird Al Yankovic's Poodle Hat CD. Actually, a hidden track
accessable only by your computer. It's "Hardware Store". Check
it out.
MORE MUSIC BEING SQUEEZED IN EACH ISGD SHOW!
That's right. We've pumped in about 30 more minutes of music and
other stuff in each ISGD without adding more time. How? We got
rid of the Demented Datebooks feature. We figure that there's too
much stuff to present and we don't want to go to five hours, so
something had to go. Also, the Best of ISGD from earlier months
will be airing in the last hour of ISGD most weeks beginning
with the 7/13 show.
See the Demetned Datebooks at
http://today.davesfunstuff.com/
---------------------------------------------------------------------
TIME CHANGES:
After some research, we determined that some time slot changes
for the runs of ISGD need to be adjusted. The premiere episode
of ISGD will still be on Mondays, but will run TWICE in a row.
The Easterners can listen in earlier at 8pm their time. As the
Westerners get home, they can tune in between 5pm and 9pm their
time and join the show in progress, then catch the beginning
of the second run when it starts at 9pm so they can listen to
what they didn't catch at 5pm.
Saturday mornings will have two shows back to back in order
of last week's show followed by this week's show.
Thursdays will have a run of this week's show in the daytime
for people who work in the office. It's repeated the following
Wednesday daytime after the XM 30 feed of Dr. Demento
ends, so you can switch channels to catch it.
---------------------------------------------------------------------
DR DEMENTO ON XM Radio
For those who have XM Radio, past shows of the Dr. Demento Show
will be heard on XM Radio beginning on June 2.
You can buy the receiver at Best Buy, Circuit City, and other places,
and you can see xmradio.com for a list of dealers near you that carry
their radios.
Tune in Mondays at 6pm ET/3pm PT, Wednesdays at NOON ET/9am PT,
and Thursday nights at MID (early Friday) ET/9pm PT (opposite Will
and Grace on NBC!).

Kahnman's Comedy Corner - one new episode aired on the May 12th

the 2 hour version of the show makes it's debut on DFSX.

radio show" to air in August.

COMING SOON: DEMENTIA IDOL
You heard about that Fox show, right, only with amateur singers
singing covers of (yawm) contemporary pop songs.
Well, why don't somebody do the same thing, except with singers
singing funny songs of their own? That's what Dementia Idol is
about.
Many new funny musicians have come to the dementia scene in the past
seven years or so, and it's time for DFSX to showcase the songs
of the artists, while letting you vote for the artist you like best.
Each week on Dementia Idol, you vote for the one artist you like
the best, and the artist with the least votes is elimiated from the
show.
I'm planning to start out with ten of these artists from this list,
but I need to whittle it down by a few, so feel free to e-mail me
and let me know what ten of these artists I should start out with.
Raymond and Scum, Mike Toomey, Billy Jonas, Power Salad, Worm Quartet,
Carla Ulbrich, Dan Hart, Slant 6 and the Jumpstarts, Henry Phillips,
Mylo Hatzenbuhler, Throwing Toasters, Tony Goldmark,
Barry & The Bookbinders, Steve Goodie, Four Postmen, The Vestibules,
Sudden Death, Larry Weaver, Steven Lynch, Da Vinci's Notebook.
All of these artists are relatively known to have several songs
played on Dr. Demento's radio show. The rule is that they had to
have 2-3 CDs out in the past ten years or several unreleased tapes
over the same period.
So please feel free to e-mail me and let me know what ten artists
you wish to start out with.
Also in the works: "Big League Dementia Idol"
The following artists are in the Major League, and if interested,
I'll do a separate Idol type show for these. They had at least
one of the following apply to them: TV and/or radio
exposure outside of Dr. D, multi hits and albums, major label, and
minor celebrities, etc.
the great Luke Ski, Tim Cavanaugh, Richard Cheese (Mark Jonathan
Davis), Adam Sandler, Jeff Foxworthy, Jimmy Fallon, Arrogant Worms,
Weird Al, Cletus T Judd, Tim Wilson, Bill Engvall, George Lopez,
South Park, Rodney Carrington, They Might Be Giants, Sean Morey
The Unknown Idol
The following apply to them: (2 CDs or less in five years, two songs
or less on Dr. D)
KJV Presents, John Cougarstein, The Cowards, Suzanne Willett,
Phil Van Tee, Amanda Green (songs of...), Chaston and Groditski,
Mark Poolos, Jane Hathaway, Tom Tuerff, Ian Butler, Jim Caruso,
Brett Eidman, David M. Kilgore, Two Headed Puppy, Tom Perri

THE JUNE 2 ALL STAR WARS EXTRAVAGANZA
A special four hour salute to the summer movie blockbuser
"Star Wars" aired in the first week of June. We went through the
history of Star Wars inspired novelty songs from 1977-1983 and again
from 1977-2002, covering all five of the Star Wars movies in novelty
song and sketch history.
This show may repeat once a week throughout the summer at odd times,
so watch this website to see when it pops up again.
---------------------------------------------------------------------
WHY DID SOME OF MY FAVORITE SONGS DISAPPEAR?
Sometimes just one "thumbs down" vote is all it takes to get a song
off the playlist, especially if nobody gives the song a "thumbs
up" vote. Also, DFSX takes into consideration how many people leave
a song while it is playing. Though it may have gotten one "up" vote,
five people left while it was playing, so that song is also gone!
Please be sure to launch the DFSX stream from this website and not
directly from your Winamp player in order for you to be able to
rate the songs:
---------------------------------------------------------------------
FAQ: WHERE ARE ALL THE POODLE HAT TRACKS?
Answer: The CD wsa almost impossible to rip into MP3 files needed
to use for broadcasting on the Internet. I tried the normal
digital high speed rip, but the MP3s were full of errors.
I also turned on the error-checking feature to slow it down, but
that still resulted in errors.
Lastly, I put the ripping on analog method and ripped the songs
in over 60 minutes.
The problem is that the tracks on the CD, like many others,
are recorded with the volume too high. This causes the MP3
ripper to produce errors in the MP3s, rendering then
unusuable for broadcast.
Before I used the ripped MP3s, I had to use Cooledit to lower
the volume to 87 percent of the maximum level to make them
compatable with the volume of the other songs on the station.
Nobody likes to listen to a LOUD song, then listen to a song
with the volume too low, then back to LOUD again. It's very
annoying.
More tracks, three at a time, from Poodle Hat will make their
debuts on DFSX in the weeks to come beginning June 9th.
Thanks for understanding.

The DFSX Radio Show aired a pilot on Dec 16, 2002, and about ten listeners heard it, plus two people who heard my show to on CD (low quality MP3). The Best of 2002 was highlighted and will be repated this week. For days and times, please see the DFSX homepage: http://dfsx.netfirms.com/
The DFSX Radio Show will showcase new music weekly beginning in January 2003. The first few editions will be concentrating on some recent dementia you may have missed the first time around up to ten years ago.
KahnMan's Comedy Corner airs on DFSX in regular time slots
This month's spotlight: The Four Postmen's song
"My Christian Love"
Starting in January, The KahnMan will be a feature inside the DFSX
Radio Show, as well as other features such as the Spike Jones
and Weird Al Songs of the week. The songs without the intros
will air at least during the week at random times.
Thank you to all the readers who have been enjoying DFSXmas playing continuous funny music 24 hours a day whenever you feel like hearing it. It has logged more listener hours than the DFSX channel. I will continue the DFSXmas channel indefinitely until listener hours drop off, then I will turn it into a DFSXcursion Channel playing underground and demented music that was heard first on DFSX but dropped. Album tracks and other random stuff would then fill up the time.
