PAST ANNOUNCEMENTS

Covering the year 2007 Part 3

dfsxradio.com Update 7-16-07

Woulda. Coulda. Shoulda.

So, aside of the CRB and SoundExchange issues, where did dfsx go wrong?

July 11, 2007, was the final date that dfsx had a radio stream going.

After seven years of streaming and over $1,000 in red ink, thanks mostly to live365 screwing up their scheduler, and not keeping up with the times, a decision was made to shut down the stream because there were not enough active listeners who are interested in listening to the comedy music stream.

Having over 600 paying VIP listeners would have helped keep the stream going as there would have been enough listeners to reverse the losses incurred and to make back the money invested in keeping the stream going.

Remember all those announcements telling the listener to tell their friends to listen to the stream? Some of them could have been VIP members that could have been helping to pay by simply listening to dfsx for at least 30 hours a week.

Remember those announcements on dfsx about the bumper stickers? Yes, you do. Only two people bought one. Not enough to spread the word about dfsx.

Remember you seeing all those shirts, caps, mugs, buttons, and other stuff on the dfsxradio.com website? I'm sure you noticed them enough to buy some of them for yourself and show them to your friends. The funds could have been used to pay for the stream too.

Remember hearing the DT20 show on the DFSX stream where the deejay told the listeners to tell their friends to tune in and to listen to the doubling password? Problem with that was one person listened to the show, then after the show ended, they told their friends about the doubling password, which is a no-no, as it defeats the purpose of getting more needed listeners to listen to the stream. You see, the show were designed to get many people listening at once, as in, hundreds of listeners? Hello? That's exactly what we needed by this time seven years after beginning the stream. Fortunately, the computer that receives the ballots rejects the doubling passwords after the show ends early the next day (if they were sent after 3am Eastern, the doubling passwords were ignored). See? You have to be a listener to use the password, and chances are, if you sent it in in mid-afternoon, you weren't listening as you were supposed to be, were you?

So, based on the fact that people are abusing the system so that dfsx wasn't getting enough listeners to survive, and the fact that dfsx was paying $480 a year for a live 365 package that was going to possibly double, and the fact that we would then need 1,200 active VIP listeners, a decision had been made to discontinue the dfsx stream, move most of the shows to the podcasts, and cancel the sponsor links program from the dfsxradio website immediately.

With one less dementia stream going, there will be fewer people who will be listening to the wit and wisdom of today's underground dementia artists such as Steve Goodie, Robert Lund, the great Luke Ski, Jonathan Coulton, Power Salad, Worm Quartet, etc. All of those artists got exposure from being featured on the dfsx stream. Now that that's gone, they'll have to market themselves with another website and station.

Thanks to the abusers of the system, fewer dementia artists will be streaming to the listener's homes, and with the Dr. Demento show shutting down the Internet streams from their radio affilliates, the abusers should realize that they have made a serious mistake, and should be ashamed of themselves for not being active VIP listeners, telling their friends to listen and become VIP listeners, and to purchase the now defunct bumper stickers and other stuff that was hawked on the dfsx website.

But there is a another way to support dfsx and to help it recoup all of the expenses it incurred after five years of paying for the streaming expenses. Buy some David Tanny CDs!

David Tanny CDs: http://www.davidtanny.com/

As a matter of fact, you're gonna need to buy them because they have a unique reusuable doubling password so you can use it on the dt20 ballot. In return, you get a CD full of demented music and comedy that you could add to your dementia collection.

And remember this...the doubling password CANNOT be used by more than one person, i.e., the OWNER of the SA3.0 CD! If they want the doubling password, then they will have to buy their own SA3.0 CD with their own doubling password. All of the doubling passwords are different. No two are the same. We know who we sold the CDs to, and if they don't match, guess what folks? The ballot will not count, period. You can't abuse this sytem.

So instead of having a money-losing stream with not enough listeners, now you have to deal with no longer being able to double your passwords for free unless you pay (i.e. help dfsx get reimbursed for streaming expenses) by buying a David Tanny CD. The passwords will be good until further notice, and by that time, you will need to purchase Stupid Audio 4.0.

And to help sell the CDs, the davidtanny.com website has been folded into the dfsxradio.com, and the section row on the website now has the additional "David Tanny CDs" tab. So you're not only at the dfsxradio.com website, you're at the davidtanny.com website as well!
