From Al:
As you may have heard by now, "The Weird Al Show" has been cancelled (as has the entire CBS Saturday Morning block). I must say, I'm not the least bit surprised by this, given the network's overall abysmal ratings on Saturday morning. It didn't help that the only real promotion CBS did for "The Weird Al Show" was *during* Saturday morning when, as it turns out, nobody was watching.
Plus, quite honestly, I don't know how excited I would have been about doing another season on CBS. But cross your fingers - Dick Clark Productions and I are now actively trying to place the show on another network, perhaps one that will let me do some edgier comedy, and not insist on so many beat-you-over-the-head-till-you're-a-bloody-pulp "educational messages."
I learned a lot about doing a TV series last year, and I kind of feel like the whole first season was a trial run. I'd love to have another shot at it, and I'm certain that with the right network, we could do a show that's easily twice as good.
Of Course, we'll keep you posted on the future of the show. In the meantime, enjoy the reruns on CBS till September - and thanks for your support.
Your pal,
Al
