NOTES: I did receive the "Funny Favorites" CD, 3 CDs with just 30 songs (10 on each disc) that could have filled just over one CD for a cheap price of $10.95 on Amazon.com
Before you decide to purchase the CD, there are a few things you should know about the CD
1) 11 out of 30 songs listed on the CD are original recordings, the rest are newer stereo recordings performed by the original artist or one or more members of the original group for one reason or another. You may like the newer versions or be disappointed that they don't sound like the original hit versions you're used to hearing on the radio. I'll let you judge for yourself.
In the case of Buckner and Garcia, the rerecording of Pac Man Fever was a remake because their original label at CBS Records (now owned by Sony) owns the original 1981 recording and they refused to let them use it here. This is one of them.
2) Some of the recordings seem to have different names. For example, the song "The Curly Shuffle," the original recording as indicated by an asterisk, is credited to The Obscure instead of the Jump 'N The Saddle Band. I'm not sure why. Another one is "Tie Me Kangaroo Down, Sport" credited to Jim Springer (original indicated by an asterisk) instead of Rolf Harris.
3) the song "Beep Beep", is a different interpretation of The Playmates hit single redone by Sonny Shroyer. It is a totally different sounding version of the song.
4) I'm not sure why Maria Muldaur's song "Midnight at the Oasis" is included on the CD? It's the 27th cut on the three-CD series (disc 3). Someone wish to clue me in why this is a Funny Favorite? Maybe "Weird Al" insisted this song be included? I guess he played it at 78 speed on his old college radio show. I don't know.
This is not a criticism of the CD collection, but these facts are something you should know about before you decide to buy it.
