His musical mission, in his own words, is to “combine the vocal acumen of Lou Reed, the lyrical poetry of Britney Spears and the fashion sense of Garth Brooks.”
Born September 26, 1972 in the outskirts of Harlem, John Cougarstein clawed his way out of poverty and into the hearts of several drunken club-goers, starting in 1995. He built his following by performing in many of our nation’s hallowed music halls, including Chief Ike’s Mambo Room in Washington, the laundromat-cafe Brainwash in San Francisco, the corner of 5th and Flatbush in Brooklyn, as well as many prisons and county fairs in the industrial Midwest and Canada.
Now after several years of live performances, John Cougarstein quenches America’s thirst for song parodies with his debut CD, “S.U.C.K in the U.S.A.”
Released independently by his own Authority Always Wins Records, “S.U.C.K. in the U.S.A.” addresses subjects that have been ignored for too long by the corporate rock and rap monolith, like lusting after Smurfette, the trials and tribulations of Jewish women, lusting after Tea Leoni, the harmful politics of the Heritage Foundation and lusting after squirrels.
