AIN'T NO LIBERAL
The Foremen
Promotional cassette
Reprise PRO-C-7847 (1995)
This promotional cassette-single contains the same version of "Ain't No Liberal"
which appears on the Reprise "Folk Heroes" album. It's interesting mainly for
the cover photo of Pete Wilson who was governor of California at the time, and
a presidential hopeful for 1996. Once a strong supporter of affirmative action
and immigration, he made a huge shift to the other side, heading national
movements against both. (He backed California Initiative #187 making illegal
immigrants - adults and children alike - ineligible for medical care and
public school education.) I remember reading somewhere that Roy thought it was
terribly crass of Wilson to announce his candidacy in front of the Statue
of Liberty when he was running largely on an anti-immigration platform.
Anyway, Reprise pressed up all these cassettes with Pete Wilson's picture, and
then Wilson withdrew from the race (no cause and effect here), so the Foremen
then had all these useless cassettes that they ended up giving away at their
shows. In fact, at their last show at McCabe's in April of 2000, they were
still giving away these cassettes.

The Foremen
Promotional CD
Reprise PRO-CD-7986 (1995)
This contains two versions of "Ain't No Liberal" - the album version from the
Reprise "Folk Heroes," and a radio-edit version which is shorter by about 40 seconds.

Promotional CD
Reprise PRO-CD-7862 (1995- I assume)
I've been told that this is a one-track CD containing the album version of the above song from the
Reprise "Folk Heroes" album, and that it contains no artwork or CD front-insert. I don't have
this one, so I can't confirm this.
