People riot thinking the government stole eleven days of their lives. The American Colonies also adopt the Gregorian calender (becomes September 14). Pope Gregory the 13th came up with the new calendar in 1582, replacing the Roman era Julian calendar. It moved the dayʹs date up from September third to September 14th.
