In 1913, Actress-comedienne Judy (Juliette) Canova was born in Starke, Florida. She made her Broadway debut in “Ziegfeld Follies of 1936” and later became the hostess of “The Judy Canova Radio Show” for 12 years. She starred in such films as “Artists and Models,” “Sleepytime Gal,” “Louisiana Hayride,” “Oklahoma Annie,” “The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn” and “Cannonball,” and was known over the years by several nicknames: “Queen of the Air,” “Queen of Corn,” and “Jenny Lind of the Ozarks.” One of her daughters, Diana Canova, starred on the TV sitcom “Soap.” Judy died of cancer in Hollywood, California, on August 5, 1983.
