In 1431, Joan of Arc, the French heroine and martyr, condemned as a heretic, was burned at the stake in Rouen, France. Joan of Arc was only 19 years old. She had been convicted of sorcery…a charge that may not have seemed unreasonable at the time since she frequently claimed to hear voices and was so persuasive she once got the king of France to give her an army.

In 1908, “the man of a thousand voices,” Mel Blanc, was born Melvin Jerome Blanc in San Francisco, California.
