In 1962, Teenage twist star Danny Peppermint--who had earlier released a version of “The Peppermint Twist” different from, but competing with, the version by Joey Dee and the Starlighters — is nearly killed when he touches a microphone stand at the Thunderbird Hotel in Las Vegas and is electrocuted. Heʹs rushed to a hospital where he recovers.

The NFL stayed on CBS continuously for 30 years, until upstart FOX Broadcasting side-swiped the powerful CBS and outbid it for the rights to the NFL telecasts for nearly two BILLION dollars over five years. As a result, most of the well-known CBS Sports announcers went to FOX, including Pat Summerall, John Madden, Dick Stockton, Verne Lundquist and others. It was a black eye for the once proud CBS.
