The Manhunt

The state police ask Andy and Barney to step aside while they search for an escaped convict in Mayberry. Look For: The only appearance of Barney's Mother played by Lillian Culver. Otis Campbell in the Mayberry choir.

The Guitar Player

Andy the Matchmaker

Andy, trying to lift Barney's spirits, stages a minor robbery and tries to match his deputy with a shy seamstress. Factoid: The Snappy Lunch (mentioned in this episode) was actually one of Andy's favorite eating spots when he was in high school.

Opie's Charity

Andy becomes upset when Opie contributes a measly three cents to the Underprivileged Children's drive.

A Feud is a Feud

Ellie for Council

Ellie's decision to run for town council sparks a battle of the sexes. Look For: Mary Treen as Sam's unnamed wife. She played Andy's housekeeper, Rose, in the first episode.

Christmas Story

A modern-day Scrooge (businessman Ben Weaver) causes trouble on Christmas Eve.Factoid: This was the only Christmas episode -- and the first directed by Bob Sweeney. Blooper: Andy incorrectly reads a letter from the Hubacher Brothers as Merry Christmas instead of greetings from state prison.

Stranger in Town

Mayberrians (especially Barney) become suspicious of a stranger who seems to possess knowledge about everyone. Look For: Walter Baldwin, making his only appearance as Floyd the Barber before Howard McNear assumed the role.

Maybery Goes Hollywood

Almost everyone puts on airs when a Hollywood film crew decides to use Mayberry as the backdrop for a movie.

The Horse Trader

Those Gossipin' Men

The Beauty Contest

Andy is chosen to be the sole judge of a local beauty pageant. The entrants include Floyd's niece, the mayor's daughter and Ellie Walker. Look For: Floyd singing, Hail to Thee, Miss Mayberry.

Alcohol and Old Lace

Andy and Barney, on a still-smashing spree, are surprised when a trail leads them to two spinster sisters. Look For: Barney eating spiked preserves on toast.

Andy And The Marriage Counselor
Episode: 018 | Aired: February 10, 1961
Andy counsels a Mayberry couple that constantly bickers. Guest Star: Fred Boone is played by veteran actor Jesse White, best known as the Maytag repairman.

Mayberry on Record
Episode: 019 | Aired: February 13, 1961
Andy becomes suspicious when a record promoter comes to town to gather material for a folk music album. Guest Stars: Hugh Marlowe, who played Ellery Queen on TV during the '50s, plays Mr. Maxwell. He's best known as Jim Matthews on the soap Another World.

Andy Saves Barney's Morale

Barney's overzealous policing enrages the people of Mayberry. Look For: The Manhunt music is played at the end of this episode. It's in this episode that it becomes Barney's Theme.

Andy and the Gentleman Crook
Episode: 021 | Aired: February 27, 1961
An infamous con artist, held temporarily in Mayberry, manages to enchant everyone except Andy. Look For: Andy tells Opie and Barney his own version of Jack and the Beanstalk.

Cyrano Andy
Episode: 022 | Aired: March 06, 1961
Andy tries to help Barney express his love struck feelings for Thelma Lou. Don't Miss: Casanova Barney's seduction of Ellie.

Andy And Opie, Housekeepers
Episode: 023 | Aired: March 13, 1961
Andy and Opie go to great lengths to show Aunt Bee what a mess they'd be without her. Look For: Hope Summers makes her first appearance as neighbor Bertha Edwards. She will ultimately return as Bee's friend Clara Edwards.

The New Doctor

A handsome new doctor arouses suspicion in Aunt Bee and Barney and jealousy in Andy.

A Plaque for Mayberry
Episode: 025 | Aired: April 03, 1961
Mayor Pike (Dick Elliott) and the townspeople are shocked to discover that the last living descendant of Revolutionary War hero Nathan Tibbs is Mayberry's town drunk, Otis Campbell. Look For: The Barney Fife Peter Piper Nose-p\Pinching Test for Drunks. Factoid: The actresses who play Mrs. Bixby (Isabel Randolph) and Mrs. Harriett Wicks (Carol Veazie) both appeared at different times on the Dick Van Dyke show as Laura Petrie's mother.

The Inspector

A by-the-book courthouse inspector condemns Andy and Barney's lack of proper procedure while Andy deals with a local bootlegger. Look For: Barney plays checkers with himself.

Ellie Saves A Female
Episode: 027 | Aired: April 17, 1961
Ellie encourages and helps a female farmhand to express her femininity. Look For: See what happens when Ellie sprays Midnight Madness perfume on Andy.

Andy Forecloses
Episode: 028 | Aired: April 24, 1961
Grumpy businessman Ben Weaver insists that Andy foreclose on a down-on-his-luck neighbor. Dont miss Barney's attempt to sell an old suit at the rummage sale. Look For: The Scobey family is played by the same actors who played The Muggins family in the Christmas episode.

Quiet Sam
Episode: 029 | Aired: May 01, 1961
Barney is suspicious that Mayberry's mysterious new farmer (William Schallert) is up to no good and growing marijuana. He's shocked to find out what's really going on at Sam Becker's farm. Factoid: This was the first episode by the prolific writing team of Jim Fritzell and Everett Greenbaum. Guest Star: William Schallert played Patty Duke's father in The Patty Duke Show in addition to a variety of other television and film roles.

Barney Gets His Man
Episode: 030 | Aired: May 08, 1961
An escaped convict vows revenge on Barney Fife, the man who sent him back to prison. Look For: The hilarious scene where Barney uses his body as a weapon to capture the crook.

The Guitar Player Returns
Episode: 031 | Aired: May 15, 1961
Mayberry guitarist Jim Lindsey (James Best), a success as a solo artist, returns to a hero's welcome. However, Andy suspects trouble.

Bringing Up Opie
Episode: 032 | Aired: May 22, 1961
Aunt Bee, believing that the jailhouse environment is adversely affecting Opie, forbids the lad to spend time at the courthouse. Listen For: Background music by Earle Hagen and crew during the 'kick the can' sequence.
