In 1906, Comedian Lou Costello (Louis Francis Cristillo) was born in Paterson, New Jersey. A former newsboy, soda jerk, and prizefighter, Costello went to Hollywood in the late 1920s to break into films. Unsuccessful, he went into vaudeville and burlesque instead, and in 1931 teamed with Bud Abbott to form one of the most successful comedy teams in show business.
