In 1920, Rupert the Bear, along with his pals Bill Badger, Algy Pug and Pong Ping, debut in Britainʹs Daily Express. Now the bear that lays claim to being the longest-running childrenʹs comic character in the world, even longer than Winnie the Pooh and Mickey Mouseʹs longtime reign!

In 1924, Actor Joe Flynn was born in Youngstown, Ohio. He starred in “The Seven Little Foys,” “The Desperate Hours,” “Lover Come Back,” “Divorce American Style” and a number of Disney films, including “The Love Bug,” “The Computer Wore Tennis Shoes,” “The Barefoot Executive,” “The $1,000,000 Duck,” “Now You See Him, Now You Donʹt” and “Superdad.” He is perhaps best remembered as Captain Wallace Binghamton — “Leadbottom” — in the 1960s TV sitcom “McHaleʹs Navy.” Flynn died under mysterious circumstances on July 19, 1974, when his body was found at the bottom of his swimming pool, reportedly weighed down by a leg cast he was wearing for a broken leg. Some reports say his death was due to a heart attack (and he then fell in); other reports say he drowned; still others say he was murdered by unnamed persons. Pick your own ending.
