The network, running a non-powerhouse lineup of NBA b-ball and Donnie Brasco, scored its lowest, non-rerun ratings on a Sunday since Nielsen began keeping track of such things back in 1987. The ratings were so dismal, that two cable shows beat the Johnny Depp-Al Pacino gangster flick. In 2009, Admitted Wall Street swindler Bernard Madoff, accused of defrauding thousands of clients of billions of dollars in a massive Ponzi scheme over 20 years, pleaded guilty to 11 felonies. Madoff apologized to his victims: “I am painfully aware that I have deeply hurt many, many people…I cannot adequately express how sorry I am for what I have done.” (He was later given a 150-year prison sentence; he died in prison in April 2021. David Letterman once did a countdown to his prison release for a few weeks on his The Late Show on CBS.)
