In 1896, Actor-comedian George Burns was born Nathan Birnbaum in New York City. With cigar in hand, and seemingly always accompanied by a young and beautiful woman, Burns made millions laugh with his quick wit and easy style. His career got started with his straight-man act for comedienne Gracie Allen in 1922. In 1926, the two were wed and the “Burns and Allen” team made history, from vaudeville to radio (1932) to films and then TV, beginning in 1950. Several generations used Burnsʹ trademark closing line, “Say goodnight, Gracie,” whenever someone made a ditzy comment. Burns later won a best supporting actor Oscar for 1975's “The Sunshine Boys” and also starred in “Oh, God!” (as God), “Going in Style,” “Two of a Kind” and “Radioland Murders.” Burns died on March 9, 1996, only weeks after his 100th birthday.

The station manager at KWK, Robert Convey, calls the action “a simple weeding out of undesirable music.”
