It was June 21, 1996, when two low power radio stations sharing the 103.1 MHz frequency switched formats to an all-dance leaning format with the handle of the trademarked Groove Radio. Thus, for a year while Swedish Egil was running the show, it was known as Groove Radio 103.1 coming from Santa Monica and Newport Beach.
It was also one of the earliest radio stations to stream its signal over the internet, in fact, a now defunct San Diego-based internet provider, CTS dot net, listed Groove Radio on one of their pages on their website to visit from there and stream their signal (bitcasting).
Jammin' Z90 once had a long weekend of evening and late night dance mix shows. When Jacor Communications purchased what is now "Channel 933" in 1996, they simulcasted their WFLZ signal (also on 93.3) on the El Cajon 93.3 for months until their San Diego-based studios were built. They also ran their weekend mix shows playing a mix of Miami-flavored dance mixes. Many other stations around Southern California such as 102.7 KIIS-FM and Power 106 in Los Angeles also featured weekend dance mix shows.
San Diego could have had a longer presence of an all-dance radio station. Channel 933 was mostly dance when it signed on in El Cajon-San Diego on September 1, 1996. When Jacor merged the format of Q106 into Channel 933 in 1998, the latter took on more pop and less dance, but kept the dance mix show time slots Q106 had during the weekdays and weekends.
But it was Groove Radio 103.1 that set the motion to introduce to us many more of the songs that were electronic and dance-based that would have never otherwise been exposed in the first place, many of which became hits on their own right and still get played on classic rhythm-based radio stations every now and then.
Even after the station's demise in October of 1998, the electronic dance movement continued on, with the establishment of grooveradio.com in January 2000, electronica dance formats making their way onto Internet-based audio streams without a licensed broadcasting partner, XM and Sirius satellite radio, music sharing services such as Spotify and Youtube, and more. Today, electronic dance music lives as a musical institution alongside hip hop, modern rock, and K-pop.
You see, you can't stop a revolutionary genre movement by pulling them off the broadcast signals. The revolution will continue, radio broadcast or no radio broadcast.
What you use this list for is up to you.
It can be used to remember the good ol' songs heard on this station; you can search for a song that you might have heard but don't know the artist or the exact title; it can give someone an idea of the type of music that Groove played; or we can use it to speculate on what songs the station would be playing right now if it still were in existance.

Note from the webmaster: the list of songs are not necessarily restricted to the years 1996-1998, the years Groove was airing in Los Angeles. Many songs from 1995 and earlier got played, and dance songs from the 1970s were played as Flashbacks (mostly the disco songs.)
