On that date, ABC contracts "Home Show" back to 60 minutes, and gives the 12 ET, 11 CT/PT slot to local afflliates. For the time being, no network programmed that time slot.

During the fall, NBC cancels the low-rated "Santa Barbara" and its final episode aired in January. That hour would be given to local affiliates as NBC has given up trying to program opposite the popular soaps on CBS and ABC. However, NBC would then program the 12 ET, 11 CT/PT half hour slot afterwards as its network schedule shrinks from four and a half hours to four.
