On this date below, ABC replaces "The New Love, American Style" with a game show, "Double Talk" in the 11:30 ET, 10:30 CT/PT slot. It would last for four months.

During the summer, due to declining affiliate clearances, CBS was the last network to give up programming the 4 ET, 3 CT/PT slot after the final airing of "Press Your Luck" aired on September 26th. In the next 20 years, more affiliates would drop low-rated network programming in favor of lucrative syndicated programming, which would cause the network schedules to shrink in terms of number of hours programmed.
