1989/01/16-Eastern; for Central and Pacific, subtract one hour

On the first change of the year, ABC expands "Home Show" to one hour, and moves "Growing Pains" to 12 ET, 11 CT/PT, where the canceled "Ryan's Hope" aired until January 13.

NBC too was having the same 12 ET, 11 CT/PT affiliate clearance problems. On the Central and Pacific time zones, NBC and ABC were trounced by the popularity of CBS-TV's soaper "Young and the Restless", which was just beginning a long reign of being #1 on the daytime Nielsen ratings as it also aired at 11am on many of the stations in those two time zones.

During the winter, NBC canceled "Super Password" and gave its time slot back to the local affiliates.

During two weeks in March, NBC replaced "Sale" with "At Rona's" from March 6 through March 17, 1989. "Sale" came back on March 20 for one final week before being replaced with another show.

In a scheduling change, NBC gave the noon ET, 11 CT/PT slot to local affiliates.

ABC had no competition in that time slot.

In the 12:30 ET, 11:30 CT/PT slot, NBC added a new soap "Generations," and moved "Scrabble" to the 10 ET, 9 CT/PT slot. To make room for the move, NBC canceled "Sale of the Century."
