You are at the section The 21 Factory Card Game

Intro: The 21 Factory

The rules of the game are similar to Blackjack with two couples (in Gambit), or three single contestants (in Catch 21) compete to win a game with the highest card value in their hand. Like Blackjack, they can't bust, that is, go over 21, and the competitors can freeze their decks at any value they wish. The rules go on and on but you can search for the game show for more.

In my invention, the 21 Factory, here's how the differences stack up from Blackjack.

  1. There are no freezes in the game. Since no hand will go over 21 by the design of this game, freezes are worthless.
  2. The number of players may be 2, 3, 4, or even more.
  3. The number of pallets for hands each player has is unlimited.
  4. No hand will go over the value of 21; if a card is introduced that would put one hand over 21, a new pallet for the new hand is created for that card to be placed on.
  5. In the 52-deck version, all Aces are worth 21 points. In the 56-deck version with the Knights, the Aces are worth 11 points.
  6. You build a 21 by using one card with a value of 10 plus two cards totalling the value of 11 (2 and 9, 3 and 8, 4 and 7, and 5 and 6); there are no cards worth one point.
  7. Players can swap cards they have won with an opponent's card with two catches: the card they swap in has to immediately make a 21, they cannot take from an opponent a card that has already made them a 21, and Aces can't be taken from their opponents.
  8. In a 52-card deck version, 16 combinations using a face card or a ten card plus two cards totalling eleven are possible, along with four aces worth 21 points each making 20 possible combinations. In the 56-card deck version, the Aces are worth eleven points due to the addition of the ten point Knight card.
  9. All combinations of 21 have three cards including the mandatory ten point value card, except those involving a single 21 point Ace for a 52-card deck, or combinations of two cards involving a 11 point Ace and a 10 point card for a 56-card deck.
  10. Cards are won by two methods: simple drawing of a card depending on whose turn it is, or the answer a question method where the player that buzzes in and gets the answer right is awarded the card and the choice of what to do with it.
  11. Again, there are no cards with the value of one, so you can't make a 21 using an Ace and two cards valued at ten points.
  12. The player with the most hands completed with the value of 21 wins the game.
  13. The most hands completed needed to win is eleven, but with three or more players, since there are just 20 completed combinations possible, it's possible that a game will end if the leading player has won enough cards for their opponents to not win enough to catch up with the leader.
  14. Ties are possible, that is, two or more leading players could tie with the most 21 hands completed, so a two player game could have a 10-10 tie, a three-player game could have a tie ranging from 7-7 to 10-10, and so forth. In that case there would be a sudden death round to determine the winner.
  15. It is possible that not all 20 combinations of 21's will occur if there are embargoing of cards between players that would have made complete 21's.
  16. In case of tie, the tied players play sudden death a walk-off style with a newly shuffled deck of cards. Swapping cards with an opponent is not allowed in this round. The first player to get two hands of 21's wins the game.
