1987-00-00 HBO Festival (PAY) was launched. It was their second attempt as a family audience channel.

1987-00-00 satellite WTBS was renamed TBS.

1987-00-00 Shop at Home was launched.

1987-01-31 Home Theater Network signed off.

1987-02-01 The Travel Channel (was North American) signed on; its shorts produced during the HTN years were used as filler between movies and replaced the transponder space used by the departing HTN.

1987-04-01 KCOX renamed The Rainbow Channel on Cox sytstems in San Diego and aired on cable 4.

1987-04-21 WOR-TV was renamed WWOR-TV. Likewise, WOR EMI Service was rebranded as WWOR EMI Service.

1987-05-00 Channel 68 Los Angeles relaunched.

1987-07-31 Movietime was launched. Three years later, it would be rebranded as "E! Entertainment Television."

1987-08-08 Channel 68 Los Angeles signed off

1987-08-15 Channel 64 Barstow was launched.

1987-11-00 Mind Extension University (MEU) − The Education Network was launched. It was a channel dedicated to delivering direct instruction and personal enrichment programming for cable and satellite TV viewers.
