2009-01-01 MLB Network was launched.

2009-01-27 Estrella TV network was launched.

2009-02-12 Toon Disney signed off. It was replaced with Disney XD the following day.

2009-02-13 Disney XD was launched to replace Toon Disney.

2009-05-00 Automotive.TV, Cars.TV, Comedy.TV, ES.TV, Justice Central, MyDestination.TV, Pets.TV and Recipe.TV were launched.

2009-06-31 (mid year) LMN was rebranded as Lifetime Movie Network.

2009-07-07 SciFi Channel renamed Syfy.

2009-09-13 NFL RedZone was launched.

2009-09-28 BET J was rebranded as Centric.

2009-09-28 Noggin was rebranded as Nick Jr., which was taken from a former program block on Nickelodeon.

2009-09-28 The N was rebranded as TeenNick, which was taken from a former program block on Nickelodeon.

2009-10-30 Epix (PAY) was launched.

Cable History Highlights For This Year Range

In 2009, President Obama signs the DTV Delay Act to move the digital transition deadline from February 17, 2009 to June 12, 2009.
