2005-00-00 Black Starz! was rebranded as Starz In Black.

2005-00-00 Speed Channel renamed Speed.

2005-01-05 Military History Channel was launched. It was owned by A and E networks.

2005-01-10 Discovery Wings Channel was rebranded Military Channel (the second version).

2005-02-15 G4techTV was rebranaded as G4.

2005-03-00 GoodLife TV Network was renamed as American Life TV Network, then ALN later.

2005-03-04 ESPNU was launched.

2005-03-25 Starz! Kids and Family (PAY) was launched in place of Starz! Family.

2005-03-25 Starz! Theater was rebranded as Starz Edge.

2005-03-28 Starz! was restylized as starz. All of its multiplex were restylized as "starz" as part of their names.

2005-03-28 True Stories was rebranded as Encore Drama.

2005-03-28 Love Stories was rebranded as Encore Love.

2005-03-28 Action was rebranded as Encore Action.

2005-03-28 Mystery was rebranded as Encore Mystery.

2005-03-28 Westerns was rebranded as Encore Westerns.

2005-03-28 WAM! America's Kidz Network was rebranded as WAM!/Encore Wam.

2005-03-28 Fox Sports World was rebranded as Fox Soccer Channel.

2005-06-30 Logo TV was launched.

2005-07-00 Retro Television Network was launched.

2005-07-01 PAX TV renamed as i: Independent Television.

2005-07-01 BET Hip-Hop was launched.

2005-07-04 Speed Channel was rebranded as Speed.

2005-09-25 PBS Kids Channel shut down after its final broadcast day on this date.

2005-09-26 PBS Kids Sprout was launched to replace the PBS Kids Channel.

2005-12-31 Trio had its final broadcast day. The following day, Sleuth replaced it.

Cable History Highlights For This Year Range

In 2005, the FCC identifies 531 satellite-delivered national programming networks, an increase of 143 networks over 2004. The FCC also identifies 96 regional networks in addition to the national channels.
