Broadcast/Cable TV History - 2012

2012-01-01 Fox Movie Channel adopted a hybrid programming format with a time-sharing brand service alled FX Movie Channel (FXM), which ran between 3pm and 3am Eastern time.

2012-01-01 The 3 From Epix was rebranded as EPIX Drive-In.

2012-01-01 EPIX3 was launched. It was rebranded as EPIX hists later.

2012-01-02 Versus renamed NBC Sports Network.

2012-03-23 Disney Junior was launched as its own channel.

2012-03-17 Fox Sports San Diego was launched.

2012-05-28 Planet Green was relaunched as Destination America.

2012-06-01 MountainWest Sports Network (aka the mtn.) ceased operations.

2012-08-15 Pac-12 Network was launched. In addition to this national channel, it operates several regional sports channels focusing on different schools within the Pac-12 conference.

2012-10-01 Time Warner Cable SportsNet (Los Angeles) was launched. The name was changed to Spectrum SportsNet in 2016 after Charter purchased Time Warner Cable.

2012-10-02 NickMom programming block was launched on the Nick Jr. channel.

2012-11-01 The Nashville Network was revived as a digital broadcast network.

Cable History Highlights For This Year Range

In 2012, Univision Deportes and Univision Deportes Dos launches.

In 2012, DOCSIS 3.1 spec introduced by CableLabs, will eventually allow acceleration of HFC networks from tens of megabits per second to up to 10 Gbps.
