This Dave in History October 4

10-04-1982: Ed Subitsky makes another appearance impersonating a celebrity, tonight as Bob Hope.

10-04-1988: After giving a pint of blood on the air, Dave is in no mood to hear guest Shirley MacLaine tell him that Cher was right.

10-04-1988: Top 9 Good Things About Steroids - 4. Great for community theater groups putting on Ibsen's "The Incredible Hulk." (The Top Ten list was temporarily shortened to "Top 9" to help NBC save money because they only made a measly $80 million on the Summer Olympics.)

10-04-1989: A fireworks display with guest Roger Snyder results in a dangerously smoke-filled studio.

10-04-1990: Paul has no introductory music for Dumb Ads, so he goes to his office to compose a theme and comes up empty until he hears a bird outside.

10-04-1990: Top Ten Iraqi Bumper Stickers - 3. I brake for Kuwaitis, then shoot them and loot their homes.

10-04-1991: Guest John Kidd demonstrates how to make marshmellows. The show soon goes out of control as Dave and the audience throw marshmellows at each other.

10-04-1991: Top Ten Reasons This Liz Taylor Marriage Is Going to Last - 5. Have promised to stay together and raise Michael Jackson.

10-04-1993: Meg Parsont makes her first and last appearance from another building on Dave's new CBS show, giving a description of her boyfriend, Tony, to a police sketch artist.

10-04-1994: One of Dave's favorite guests, Bonnie Hunt, appears on the show. Unfortunately, so does Mickey Rourke, who carries his dog onstage. Later, Soaring Sam catches frisbees on 53rd St.

10-04-1995: Top Ten Things O.J. Simpson Had To Take Care Of Today - 6. Watch tape of Academy Awards to see if Letterman was as bad as everyone said.

10-04-1996: Billy Gibbons sits in with the band.

10-04-1996: CBS Mailbag: Referring to a current TV Guide that pays tribute to Dave's Suit of Alka Seltzer from his NBC days, Rupert Jee stands in a bowl of clam chowder.

10-04-1996: Fake sitcom with Dave and Paul: "Everything's Funny."

10-04-1996: Top Ten Ways Clinton is Preparing for the Debates - 8. Pulling strings to make sure audience is full of "chicks" who "want him."

10-04-1998: Top 9 Good Things About Steroids - 4. Great for community theater groups putting on Ibsen's "The Incredible Hulk." (The Top Ten list was temporarily shortened to "Top 9" to help NBC save money because they only made a measly $80 million on the Summer Olympics.)

10-04-1999: In "Biff Henderson's America", Biff spends 4 days in Turkey, Texas (population 507). Also, Dave gripes about having an "unpleasant medical procedure" over the weekend.

10-04-1999: Smoke fills the theater as it did 10 years ago; this time it's "mosquito spray".

10-04-2000: "New For Fall": "My Favorite Late Show Moment"--Pat Farmer can't think of anything; "Biff Henderson's All-Star Impressions of Sleeping Celebrities"--George Clooney; Anton Figg tells us every Wednesday will be Led Zeppelin Wednesday--not sure what that means; Inky does synchronized cue cards with a clone of himself; Alan Kalter's hair changes colors for Autumn; all drinking fountains in the building will be filled with hot chocolate; Dave throws a blue card out window--it flies out, becomes bigger and hits a cyclist; new "card-breaking-glass" sound effect done by Harold hitting a car windshield with a baseball bat.

10-04-2000: Calvert wanders through during the monologue again, this time wearing a black cowboy hat.

10-04-2000: Campaign 2000, sponsored by the new CBS fall season. (Take a look: 60 minutes, Judging Amy, 48 hours, Diagnosis Murder, Walker Texas Ranger, and Touched by an Angel. Just listen to what people like you are saying about CBS: the "it's just unbelievable" guy. "CBS television, it's just unbelievable.") Paul is not here, so Dave says "you guys can relax, or rehearse." Maria mentions that Bush will be on the show October 19. Dave recaps the would-be format for the Late Show debate: there will be a definitive winner, chosen by the jai alai Spectacular Seven scoring system. Dave rants more about Gore not answering the questions in last night's debate. Sponsor is Firestone Exploding Tires. ("Put some excitement in your carpool. Firestone Tires: KABOOM. Now back to you, you giant sack of manure.")

10-04-2000: Clip of the debates dubbed into Spanish: compared to the Gore translator, the translator of GWB talks really slowly.

10-04-2000: Desk rant: Dave critiques the first debate from last night. He says that GWB is lame for even attempting this joke: "Not only did he invent the Internet, he also invented the calculator." Dave also says that Al Gore would not shut up and would not answer the questions.

10-04-2000: Paul is out sick, so Anton "Zip" is running the band and Cliff Carter is on keyboards. Dave calls Paul; his illness makes his voice so low that it sounds just like Barry White.

10-04-2000: Side-by-side stills: Al Gore is starting to look like Ronald Reagan?

10-04-2000: Things That Will Get You Kicked Out of the Country Music Awards - 6. Getting caught with your Travis in someone's Tritt.

10-04-2001: Pedestrian Theme Songs: (Sample) Looks like a rock star, works at Foot Locker. (1) Will Lee: old guy is NOT a sex machine, after all; (2) Bald guy is gonna use a pet fur for a toupee? (3) odd couple: Rabbi and young Catholic woman; (4) guy sees an eye-catching magazine; (5) Dave in drag! (6) Finally get to Burt Reynolds.

10-04-2001: Top Ten Words: 10) biscuit, 9) yak, 8) epiglottis, 7) seersucker, 6) lozenge, 5) welterweight, 4) boysenberry, 3) meat, 2) o'clock, 1) Toyotathon.
