1977 Daytime Schedules-Eastern/Central Time Zone Edition

Subtract one hour to get the schedule for the Central Time zone. Many ABC shows on the Pacific Time feed use Central Time slotting except where noted.

1977/06/13-Eastern (subtract one hour for Central Time)

On this date, NBC once again made changes to its midmorning slots. It moved "Shoot For The Stars" to noon ET, 11 CT/PT and canceled "Name That Tune," which did better in syndication than in daytime.

At 11:30 ET, 10:30 CT/PT it debuted another game show, "It's Anybody's Guess" hosted by Monty Hall, and that lasted three months.

On this date, NBC replaced "It's Anybody's Guess" with "Knockout" hosted by Arte Johnson in the 11:30 ET, 10:30 CT/PT slot. In the noon ET, 11 CT/PT slot, it replaced "Shoot For The Stars" with "To Say The Least" hosted by Tom Kennedy. Both shows lasted for just over six months.

1977/11/07-Eastern (subtract one hour for Central Time)

On this date, CBS made several changes to its lineup.

At 10 ET, 9 CT/PT it canceled reruns of "Here's Lucy" and moved the start of "The Price is Right" hour to that slot.

In the late afternoon, CBS expanded "Guiding Light" to an hour at 2:30 ET, 1:30 CT/PT, while bumping reruns of "All in the Family" to 3:30 ET, 2:30 CT/PT, and "Match Game" to 11 ET, 10 CT/PT. There were now three half-hour time slots where three networks competed with soaps.

There were also some reports that CBS moved "Tattletales" to the 11 ET, 10 CT/PT slot while moving "Match Game" at 4 ET, 3 CT/PT. However, a November 30, 1977 listing for San Diego showed that KFMB aired Match Game at 10am PT, which would be 11am ET. KFMB pre-empted "Tattletales" in the latest slot like many affiliates did in favor of syndicated programming.

On this date, NBC decides to move its late afternoon block ahead a half hour, eliminating the 1 ET, 12 CT/PT open time period for affiliates, while giving the 4 ET, 3 CT/PT slot to their affiliates. Some either aired the 1 ET, 12 CT/PT shows at a later time or pre-empted it for local programming.

NBC simply moved "The Gong Show" from 4pm ET, 3pm CT/PT to 12:30pm ET, 11:30am CT/PT. It added a new soap opera called "For Richer For Poorer" at 1pm ET, 12pm CT/PT. Reruns of "Chico and the Man" were removed from the sked.

The occasional "Special Treat" specials were moved up 1/2 hour.

1977/12/12-Eastern (subtract one hour for Central Time)

In the final scheduling change of the year, CBS moved "Tattletales" to the 11 ET, 10 CT/PT slot while moving "Match Game" to the 4 ET, 3 CT/PT slot. CBS lost the after school audience it had for "Match" when it moved it to an earlier time slot. This time, "Match" returned to the death slot opposite ABC's "Edge of Night". NBC no longer programmed regular programming at this time slot. Both of these late daytime shows, however, suffered from network affiliate pre-emptions in favor of syndicated programming. Some affiliates aired "Match" or "Edge" in later or earlier time slots.
