07-04-1977: One of Dave's first appearances on national television is as a guest panelist on the syndicated "The Gong Show." Two years later, he's guest-hosting The Tonight Show for the sixth time.

07-04-1994: Dave broadcasts his first new July 4th program since his morning show in 1980. Tonight's lineup: Fireworks! by the Grucci brothers outside, and a patriotic rendition of "I Love the Fourth of July" by Richard Simmons. Calvert DeForrest comes onstage as "Barbara Streisand" and sings "Memories."

07-04-1994: Dave takes a cue card from Tony Mendez, re-reads a joke and then has the joke on the cue card passed around the audience.

07-04-1994: Top Ten Reasons the U.S. Is the Best Country on Earth - 1. Life, liberty, and Oprah.

07-04-1996: "4th of July Extravagnza" Graphic.

07-04-1996: CBS Mailbag: (1) Dave in a comic book; (2) Dave watches Bruce Willis do a striptease? (3) A Late Show page is Marv Albert, who does three sports bloopers; (4) "Neil Diamond" (Calvert) sings "America", with balloons, confetti, etc. [Is that where Will Ferrell got the idea for the impersonation?]

07-04-1996: Dave sends audience members to the roof of the Empire State Building to display the U.S. flag.

07-04-1996: Kids Tell Jokes: (1) odd frog joke; (2) "European" joke; (3) "fungi" joke; (4) Arkansas joke.

07-04-1996: Top Ten Fourth of July Movies Playing in Times Square.

07-04-1996: Top Ten Top Ten Fourth of July Movies Playing in Times Square - 2. Don't Shoot Until You See the Whites of Their Thighs.

07-04-1997: CBS Mailbag: (1) "Celebrities and Their Crimes" chart; (2) "writing for Dave" video; (3) song from the CD "Late Show stagehands sing songs from the Late Show"--Kenny and Patt sing "Letters" :) ; (4) Dave bites Tom Arnold's ear.

07-04-1997: For the second year in a row, Dave sends audience members from San Francisco to the Empire State Building to display the U.S. flag.

07-04-1997: Hard to decide who's tonight's freakier guest - Manny the Hippie, fresh from jail, or Chinese acrobat Fang Fang.

07-04-1997: Live Grucci Fireworks, some of which are actually fun to watch. Dave: "At a meeting, almost any idea sounds feels great."

07-04-1997: PBA Bowler Nelson Burton, Jr. sits in with the band.

07-04-1997: Top Ten Fourth of July Movies Shown in Times Square - Skindependence Day.

07-04-2000: "Late Show Liberty Dancers" do the same short dance twice, and again (later) with sparklers. Dave wants dancers every night. Also, Dave has a red, white, and blue tie. Earlier (tape), at the Late Show Company Barbeque on 53rd street, letter carriers add mail to the bonfire.

07-04-2000: Anna Kournikova Play of the Day: she inspects her racket.

07-04-2000: Campaign 2000, starring Maria Pope. Paul is also wearing red, white, and blue. Paul and Maria have nothing. Fireworks (3): Rain of Fire and Barbarian Blast. Sponsor: Plastic Party Forks ("They're Bendable and Patriotic").

07-04-2000: Guest seven-year-old actress Sky McCole Bartusiak, preceded by the National Hollerin' Champions: (1) Jessica Hall (distress, cow, pig, mule), (2) Ginger McComb (grandchildren call), and (3) Kevin Jasper (old-timey call).

07-04-2000: Jerry Bostocky from Phantom Fireworks in Alabama is on the phone; he sets off fireworks all night long: (1) Pyro Pandemonium goes on a while, (2) Phantom Wolfpack Maximum Load Firecracker, (3) below.

07-04-2000: Top Ten Punch Lines to Founding Father Dirty Jokes: #7. "That ain't no musket, but keep looking for the trigger".

07-04-2002: CBS Orchestra trumpet-boy Al "Chez-The Chezman" Cheznovitz marries, the ceromony taking place in the Grand Canyon. Wow, I hope they have a great wedding/holiday celobration!
