This Dave in History July 19

07-19-1988: Another week of writers-less shows has Dave invite Tailor Joseph Ritorna to design for him a new suit. Tonight: Ritorna takes Dave's measurements.

07-19-1988: Hal Gurnee's Network Time Killer: Al Hirt plays his trumpet in the control room.

07-19-1989: Batman's Top Ten Pet Peeves - 4. When an episode focuses way too much on Jake.

07-19-1989: Let's Find Out How Much Gas Joe Frazier Has in His Car. Tonight: a half-tank.

07-19-1990: Dave gets a pedestrian on the street below to repeatedly drive a convertible around the block. Near the end of the show, Paul leaves the studio to drive for the first time since he's lived in the city for sixteen years.

07-19-1990: Top Ten Things With the Same Statistical Probability as the Minnesota Twins Turning Two Triple Plays in the Same Game - 9. Falling meteor crushes Ebert, spares Siskel.

07-19-1991: Dave introduces guest Scout, a dog who (that?) ate a car.

07-19-1991: Top Ten Ways New York Adjusts to a Heat Wave - 3. "I was hot" becomes legally acceptable defense for murder.

07-19-1994: A female audience member whistles by putting almost all her fingers in her mouth

07-19-1994: Dave shakes his head from side to side and director Hal Gurnee replays it in slo-motion.

07-19-1994: Rejected FDA Products: Dr. Kevorkian's Suicide Twizzlers and Kellogg's Product 911.

07-19-1994: Top Ten Things Overheard at the Michael Jackson/Lisa Marie Presley Wedding - 3. I'm Mr. Tito Jackson. You mean Dr. Tito Jackson? Yes I am.

07-19-1995: Ed Sullivan Building Engineer George Clarke begins his "Quest for Corn" throughout the mid-west. He's off for Illinois.

07-19-1995: Tonight is the debut of Hugh Grant's "Apology Tour."

07-19-1995: Top Ten Signs Boris Yeltsin's Health is Improving - 4. Went to comedy club and beat the crap out of Yakov Smirnoff.

07-19-1996: Again, Dave mentions that Paul will be doing the Olympic Closing Ceremony music.

07-19-1996: Guest David Duchovny's mom is in the audience, apparently.

07-19-1999: Secret Word is "sphygmomanometer" for 1500 damn dollars (Quayle and King sponsoring). Later, Top Ten Ways I, Dave Letterman, Am Conserving Energy (list has only 9 items; closing music "Electic Avenue").

07-19-2000: "Summer Reading" bit, with intro music the same as the music for "Warning Labels" but with different lyrics. We get the clip of the dog biting Dave, because that dog apparently wrote a book.

07-19-2000: Again, Dave rants about the "Big Brother" exotic dancer being kicked off the show; he decides that the punks who nominated her don't deserve her, and that "we can have her on the Late Show".

07-19-2000: Campaign 2000, starring Maria Pope, sponsored by Compostumbler (testimonials by Alfred Hopkins and Roberta Brandish, I think). Debate to be held at Late Show? Gore says he'll do it; Bush hasn't returned the call yet.
