07-21-1983: The studio audience rates the value of "The Mystery Box," advertised as containing $50 worth of merchandise. Included are "decorative tortillas", a "bamboo thermometer," an antique caste iron, "hardened gum," porcelain bells, a calendar, and a pencil. Total estimate: $24.05.

07-21-1987: Chris Elliott testifies again at the Iran/Contra hearings, as his lawyer tries to cop a feel.

07-21-1988: Dave bothers patrons at a laundromat across town, via a 47,000-mile live satellite feed. During the show he convinces one customer to oversuds her washer, causing the hose behind the machine to break; he then traumatizes a child.

07-21-1989: Let's Find Out How Much Gas Joe Frazier Has in His Car. Tonight: a half-tank (again).

07-21-1989: Paul performs "When The Radio Is On," his single from his first solo album, "Coast to Coast," with backup musicians galore - Ronnie Bright, Dion Dimucci, Ecstasy, Elle Greenwich, Johnny Maestro, Jay Siegel and The Fresh Prince - Will Smith . Not being able to be there, singer/composer Carol King is replaced with actress Carol Kane.

07-21-1992: Top Ten Reasons Bush Shouldn't Drop Quayle - 3. He's almost housebroken.

07-21-1994: Dave touches Kenny Roger's "fluffy beard" in a taped game of poker.

07-21-1994: Guest Rob Reiner is greeted with a clip of him singing "Blowin' in the Wind" on an episode of "Gomer Pyle, USMC," circa 1967.

07-21-1994: Top Ten Ways to Tell that the NYC Cop Arresting You Is a Playboy Playmate - 5. When she signs her name on your summons, dots "I"s with a happy face.

07-21-1995: Boxer Peter McNeely promises to beat Mike Tyson in an upcoming championship fight. He's knocked out in the first round, but at least his ears are intact.

07-21-1995: Dave offers an audience member to shave off his beard for $300. He does, and Dave gives him $400.

07-21-1995: Remote: Dave takes Talent Assistant Zoe Friedman tattoo-hunting.

07-21-1995: Top Ten Signs O.J.'s Lawyers Have Given Up - 10. Every couple of minutes, F. Lee Bailey yells, "I call Jack Daniels to the stand!"

07-21-1997: "Summer in New York" Quiz, with Will Lee on vocals. Later, Dave mocks beginner rollerbladers.

07-21-1997: Forbes magazine says Paul Shaffer is the 6th richest man.

07-21-1997: Pauly Shore is on the show. Dave: "This answers the question, 'Is it hard getting guests in the summer?'"

07-21-1997: The Late Show airs a fascinating documentary on "the Floating Mug."

07-21-1997: Top Ten Ways Disneyland Can Attract More Visitors - 6. For no extra charge, Mike Tyson will bite off one of your mouse ears.

07-21-1998: "Tony Mendez Eats Pizza" bit.

07-21-1998: Dave hypes guest Nanci Griffith's song--it will solve your problems?

07-21-1998: One of the *best* top ten lists ever: Top Ten Greatest Books of All Time about Guys Named Steve (including "The Joy of Sex with Steve").

07-21-1998: Roll Call includes Andres Cantor, Kenny Sheehan, "Zorro" (Anton), and supposed members of the French and U.S. Soccer Teams.

07-21-1999: Dave shows his soccer ball autographed by the U.S. Women: "Leave us alone, you freak."

07-21-1999: For the third straight day, a stunt is cancelled. This time it's 7-time X-Game inline skating champ Greg Mancini's.

07-21-1999: In "Ask Einstein's Brain", audience members ask it questions. Later, Top Ten Signs the Pressure Is Getting to You During a Perfect Game.

07-21-1999: Secret Word is "mommy" for 200 damn dollars, sponsored by Hillary Clinton ("Vote for Hillary. She loves New York.") and by Larry King.

07-21-2000: Dave clips his tie again. Later, Top Ten Signs You're at a Bad Amusement Park - 5. All six flags have a picture of Chairman Mao.

07-21-2000: Dave recaps jai alai scoring (to be used in Late Show Gore/Bush debate): first round is one point, each subsequent round is two points. The first to seven points wins.

07-21-2000: During the CBS Mailbag, Dave mentions that he has heated conversations with a CBS executive once a week. Letters: (1) Dave taste-tests and picks Mr. Clean; (2) Harold Larkin tries to show us how to get a model ship into a bottle; (3) Mike Pfanennstiel wants Dave's autograph, but his name's "too hard"; (4) Alan has trouble handling Kathie Lee's leaving the "Regis" show--he goes out and smokes a cigarette.

07-21-2000: In "Staffer, Not a Staffer", there's a man in a fireman costume. Dave guesses he's a fireman and a staffer, but he's a fireman and not a staffer.
