08-29-1983: Barbara Gaines makes her debut appearance as the "voice from backstage" as Dave thanks her for passing on the lyrics to "On the Banks of the Wabash" and "Back Home Indiana."

08-29-1984: Dave's Arts and Crafts: a torpedoed-ship-in-a-bottle, a lawn chair covered with bread rolls, and tobacco play hair.

08-29-1985: It's the Summer Replacement Special, the "Summertime Sunshine Happy Hour," a tribute to the Smothers Brothers, Sonny & Cher, Carol Burnett, and the Glen Campbell Goodtime Hour. The show is never broadcast again. Anywhere.

08-29-1994: Marvin Hamlisch and the Radio City Music Hall Rockettes pay a musical tribute to Dave's Neighborhood. Throughout the show Dave reads the names of all participating Rockettes.

08-29-1994: Top Ten Signs President Clinton is Renting the Vacation House Next to Yours - 5. You open your freezer to find that your hamburgers have been taken and replaced with Presidential Medals of Honor.

08-29-1996: Composite rerun features new bits, including Leonard Tepper asking Dave, "You flew me all the way from South America for this?"

08-29-1996: Composite rerun guests: Bruce Willis, Demi Moore, and Bon Jovi.

08-29-1997: CBS Mailbag: (1) Dave at laundromat handling Kenny Sheehan's laundry; (2) bird in front of the camera; (3) partial list of Late Show "credits"; (4) Warren Zevon does some physical comedy.

08-29-1997: Stupid Human Trick: Douglas Pierce plays the "Jeopardy" theme on his hands.

08-29-1997: Stupid Human Tricks: (1) head bowling; (2) "Jeopardy" (see above); (3) creative cigarette lighting; (bonus later) guy puts a bottle of beer on his forehead and drinks the beer. Also, Dave announces that Bill Scheft is leaving the show after 6 years.

08-29-1997: Top Ten Rumors That Would Start a Panic on Wall Street - 2. Letterman named permanent host of Academy Awards.

08-29-2000: Anna Kournikova Play of the Day: walks around, adjusts shirt strap.

08-29-2000: Campaign 2000, sponsored by Hairagami (the art of folding hair: short clip... only $14.99 [etc.] Alan: "Now back to you, underpants". Paul has nothing. Maria: Al Gore to be on the show on September 14th. She says Bush's people will respond by Friday or Monday. Dave has a bone to pick with the New York Times: their August 19 article says that the polar ice cap has melted through for the first time in 50 million years. Dave was annoyed at Weather Channel for not mentioning it. Now the Times prints a retraction; the polar ice cap melts through "all the time", actually. Sponsor is Hairagami (clip of ComposTumbler guy: "It's just unbelievable". Alan: "I can't begin to tell you how many times people come up to me in the street and say 'Hey, it's that geek from Letterman.' Here's a little pick-me-up." Alan sings "Climb every Mountain", runs off with head in hands, and gets slapped around backstage.

08-29-2000: Clip: giant rats walk around a U.S. Open court during a match (they're ballboys?).

08-29-2000: In the CBS Store Late Show Rat Challenge, we see whether Juan (with his attitude) of the CBS Store can make a sale before we see a rat in the Ed Sullivan Theater alley--yes.

08-29-2000: The first of many: Calvert DeForest walks through at the end of the monologue.

08-29-2000: Top Ten Signs You Won't Be Winning the U.S. Open - 5. Training regimen consists entirely of video "Pong". In the middle of the list, there's an Anna Kournikova Play of the Day bonus edition: she scratches her leg.

08-29-2001: Charlie Parker's 80th birthday.
