This Dave in History for February 27

02-27-1984: Dave invites two audience members to host a Public Access Cable tv show. Dave calls them up later and asks about restaurants.

02-27-1985: Late Night airs its "Morning Show" special, as Dave and his co-host "Tawny Harper" (the lovely and fetching S. Benoit) simulate a typically vapid network morning program. Probably because the staff knows how uncomfortable he is with heights, Larry "Bud" broadcasts live from a helicopter and attempts to give the morning traffic report, but the reception is less than kind. Later, while exercising on the floor, Carol Channing repeatedly exposes her underpants to the camera.

02-27-1986: Cold Open: Dave, Jane Pauley, and Bo Diddley plan a road trip to Disney World. Bo offers everyone to stay at his folks' place, and Jane says, "I've never met the Diddleys." All three begin to crack up as Hal cuts to the usual show opening.

02-27-1990: Top Ten Daniel Ortega's Excuses - 8. Many voters thought "Sandinistas" were Pepperidge Farm cookies. 7. Picked young empty-headed senator as running mate.

02-27-1991: Top Ten Things Overheard in Kuwait City - 7. Who's frying goat? 2. Why are all the cab drivers here named Smith?

02-27-1992: Stagehand Theater: Al Maher and Joe Gorta act out a scene from "Fried Green Tomatoes." It's nothing like "Pat and Kenny Read Oprah Transcripts."

02-27-1992: Top Ten Things Overheard at Liz Taylor's 60th Birthday Party at Disneyland - 7. "A coupon for the Betty Ford Clinic! Thank you!"

02-27-1995: Can a Guy in a Bear Suit Get a Hug from a Cab Driver? Is Jerry Lewis beloved in France?

02-27-1996: "Know Your Neighborhood" bit: Dave interviews/quizzes audience members, including a Connecticut state trooper.

02-27-1996: Eddie Vedder from Pearl Jam walks onstage to instruct Dave how to properly sing the song "Black," crooning "Whyyyyy" for 20 seconds.

02-27-1996: Ellen Degeneres' Top Ten Tips For Hosting An Awards Show - 4. If Oprah Winfrey and Uma Thurman are both in attendance -- don't introduce them.

02-27-1996: Guests Dennis Hopper, Dave Chapelle, and Pete Droge.

02-27-1996: Tonight's show is dedicated to Debbie, the Conneticut state trooper.

02-27-1997: Guest Merrill Markoe threatens to read from her diary (the Tuesday, 8/30/1983 entry).

02-27-1997: Leonard Tepper Reports from the Grammys. Also, a fake clip of Dave at a "Wheel of Fortune" taping, in which a new puzzle board is unveiled.

02-27-1997: Merrill Markoe appears on the show, this time to promote her book "Guide to Love."

02-27-1997: Top Ten Things Overheard at the Grammys - 5. That's funny -- Marilyn Manson looks completely normal standing next to Michael Jackson.

02-27-1998: A 45-second version of the Late Show theme is presented during The CBS Mailbag.

02-27-1998: Auditions for the "part" of Dave's Mom. Also, Top Ten Ways Oprah Is Celebrating Her Victory.

02-27-1998: CBS Mailbag: (1) Dave at the Grammys, cheers for Hanson; (2) Has any Late Show staffer slept with Clinton? (3) Dave makes crank calls; (4) 45-second version of the Late Show.
