04-04-1985: Viewer Mail features a videotape of guest Leon Spinks, whose voice is overdubbed with that of Maurice Chevalier.

04-04-1989: Late Night broadcasts for the first time with Dolby Sound; Top Ten Least Popular European Tourist Attractions - #3. The Von Trapp Family's Hissing Spitting Monkey Farm.

04-04-1990: "Susan Tryer" (actually Jude Brennan) appears to promote her book "Collecting Bottle Caps"; the interview is so boring that the tape is fast-forwarded to the next commercial break.

04-04-1991: Dave has trouble communicating with Hal, so he goes into the control room and finds everyone tied up. Albert Brooks sits in Hal's position, promoting his film "Defending Your Life."

04-04-1991: Top Ten Ways the World Would Be Different If Everyone Was Named Phil - 7. When caller to Donahue show said "Phil?" everyone in audience would reply "Yes?"

04-04-1994: Dave lies down on the road, and a taxicab knocks his shoes off.

04-04-1997: Top Ten Signs You're In a Bad Cult - 10. Name of the cult: The "Larry Krishnas."

04-04-2000: Campaign 2000: Maria Pope's sister's restaurant in Texas (the Boulevard Bistro) is in a photo in the New York Times. A Carson bit: Dave reads "Inner Simplicity". Sponsors are Heart Bypass Surgery, the U.S. Census, Elian Gonzalez, and Gene Keady.

04-04-2000: Dave offers to adopt Elian Gonzalez.

04-04-2000: Joe Pistone is a guest; the "hit" CBS series "Falcone" is based on his life, apparently.

04-04-2000: The external camera is at the Hello Deli; Mujibur and Sirajul make a "Biff Henderson" sandwich, with accompanying music "Within You Without You". Then they bring it in for Paul to eat.

04-04-2002: Donz became a man on this date 38 years ago. Congratulations!
