04-23-1984: Chris Elliott is the Panicky Guy, who interrupts the show from the audience but is bored and leaves the studio in a feigned panic. Concerned, Dave visits him in his dressing room. Chris is depressed due to bad reviews. Finally, a telegram from Mercury Astronaut Gordon Cooper persuades Chris to give it another try, and he does, returning to a standing ovation.

04-23-1991: Al Maher and Joe Gorta present another episode of Stagehand Theater. Tonight: a scene from "Driving Miss Daisy."

04-23-1991: Top Ten Slogans for the New McLean Burger - 6. OK. The McNuggets suck. But these are good! Really!

04-23-1992: Martin Mull, a guest for the next night, drops by tonight to make sure that a gun is under his guest chair.

04-23-1996: "You Command the Stars" bit.

04-23-1996: Dave helps Andrew Jacobs by making a call to his classmate and telling her they may not graduate.

04-23-1996: Dave shows pictures of his mom from her cookbook.

04-23-1996: Dave takes guest Mia Farrow's temperature. We also see a clip of her and the Beatles in India.

04-23-1996: Mia Farrow reveals that once she gets on, she can't get off the Internet. Carly Simon drops by, and later, both sit in with the CBS Orchestra, Mia on tambourine, Carly on cowbell.

04-23-1996: Top Ten Madonna's Top Qualifications for the Father of Her Child - 2. Must be able to say "like a virgin" without snickering.

04-23-1997: A bit from 1980? It's "Small Town News".

04-23-1997: A fake promo for the Late Show cashes in on the guy angle.

04-23-1997: Alan Toussaint (piano) sits in with the band.

04-23-1997: Top Ten Signs Your Kid Is Spending Way Too Much Time on His Computer (closing music: "No Time").

04-23-1998: Rita Wilson appears on the show and discusses web sites devoted to Dave, noting in particular the sites "I Worship Dave," "David Letterman Speaks Swedish and German, "What's Dave Having for Lunch," and "David Letterman's Hall of Haircuts." Immediately after the broadcast, hits for these sites quadruple overnight.

04-23-1998: The guy on fire is sponsored by Biore Self-Heating Masks.

04-23-1998: The Late Show observes "Take Your Daughter To Work Day".

04-23-1998: Top Ten Most Embarassing Jobs - 3. Dairy Queen's senior vice president in charge of scrumpdillyiciousness.
