09-08-1989: Top Ten Reasons Arnold Schwarzenegger Dropped Out as Miss America Judge - 2. Got better offer to judge Star Search.

09-08-1992: Top Ten Bad Things About Living To Be 400 Years Old - 4. Disco might come back.

09-08-1993: Dave and Al Gore bond together as they smash government-sanctioned ashtrays. The Vice President reads his own Top Ten Good Things About Being Vice President - 1. Secret Service code name: "Buttafuoco."

09-08-1993: Top Ten Signs You Have a Bad Airline Pilot - 1. Keeps referring to the control tower as "Mommy."

09-08-1994: Back to School Items: the Split Pea Volcano. Also, throughout the show, "Wheel of Fortune" puzzles: "Siskel & Ebert," "I Love You, Vanna," "Aaaaaaaaah," "Dave Letterman Is a Pinhead," and "Worldwide Pants."

09-08-1995: Throughout the show, a ballboy retrieves tennis balls thrown on stage. Also, a new Late Show lawsuit begins with the first airing of The Peach Lady during a US Open Quiz.

09-08-1995: Top Ten Surprises In The Packwood Diaries - 10. Often writes letters to "Penthouse" signed "Packing Wood In Washington."

09-08-1997: Fake clips: Paul faking a movie to get out of doing the Late Show; how Dave spent his weekend; promo for "48 Hours": Al Gore robs a 7-11.

09-08-1997: Paul returns to the show after being gone for two weeks filming "Blues Brothers 2000." Unlike his sub, Warren Zevon, Paul is now bald.

09-08-1997: Time to play with the color on the TV cameras, kids.

09-08-1997: Top Ten Rejected CBS Slogans for the Fall Season - 8. Watch CBS, and an angel will come to your house and touch you.

09-08-1999: Dave and guest Ricki Lake try to call Oprah, but they don't get her. Ricki reads the Top Ten List: Ways the Country Would Be Different If It Were Run by MTV.

09-08-1999: Dave reviews his former bosses (using still photos of them) and then tries to call his new boss at Viacom, Summer Redstone, but he's not available.

09-08-2000: All of a sudden, a guy in a tux (Tony Orlando?) shows up on stage, does a schmaltzy song, and says "Goodnight Branson".

09-08-2000: Anna Kournikova Play of the Day: opens sports drink bottle and drinks from it.

09-08-2000: Campaign 2000, sponsored by New York Times Washington correspondent Adam Clymer ("here's what major political candidates are saying about Adam Clymer" ... clip of Bush calling him a major-league asshole ... Alan: "Adam Clymer: major league and big-time"). Paul has nothing. Maria: Bush is uncooperative about the debate. Al Gore to be on on Thursday; Bush to be on Regis's show. Letterman's show has received 61 Emmy nominations and won 9. Sponsors are Mrs. Paul's Fish Sticks ("so good, so tasty, so fishy"), Mr. Coffee ("make coffee in your own home, and drink it"), and L'il Debbie snack cakes ("so tasty. You know I'll bet if Mrs. Paul and Mr. Coffee had a daughter they would name her L'il Debbie. I know I would." Alan blows a kiss).

09-08-2000: CBS Mailbag: Letter #2 is from Ottawa, Canada: Is George W Bush "yella" about the Great Debate? In response, we see the clip of GWB calling the reporter an "asshole" again. Then "Adam Clymer" tells his side of the story, says "f*ck you" and flips him off.

09-08-2000: Dave handicaps the three Emmys the Late Show is nominated for: (1) Best Show (a 3-peat is unlikely), (2) Best Writing (maybe not) (3) Best Directing (maybe, that'd be nice). [Actually, The Late Show did win the first one (Outstanding Variety/Music/Comedy Series) but not the other two.]

09-08-2000: Jose Feliciano sits in with the band.
