This Dave in History September 14

09-14-1982: Small Town News: Dave spots in the classified section of the brochure "Broom, Brush and Mop" a sale of 12,000 pounds of bristles. He calls the seller, who wants $24,000 for it. Instead, Dave offers him a Chad Everett LP and a container of Late Night Fishsticks.

09-14-1983: Dave tries to prove to Paul that today is September 14, not three months earlier, as Paul claims. Among the evidence: a container of Yogurt, with an expiration date of 9/30. Paul points out that the expiration year is 1982.

09-14-1988: Dave pleads for a visit to the show from the new Miss America: a representative from NBC's Legal Department presents acceptable and unacceptable questions for her. Dave tries them out with Miss America's fill-in, Biff Henderson.

09-14-1988: Top Ten Things Overheard in Olympic Village - 1. "Look -- Superman! Now we'll never win a medal."

09-14-1993: Top Ten Things Overheard at the White House Yesterday - 1. Yatzhak, Yasir. Yasir, Yatzhak.

09-14-1994: In lieu of a comedy bit, Dave turns on the outside speaker, looking for anyone, but the street is empty. So an audience member, Brandy Alexander, is invited (more like instructed) to go outside, take some photos, and then get them developed. She returns at the end of the show, and Dave gives her a Brandy Alexander.

09-14-1994: Top Ten Killer Bee Pet Peeves - 6. When other bees make fun of the size of your stinger in the shower.

09-14-1995: The Thursday edition of the Donut-A-Pult, now resembling a giant slingshot, is wheeled onto the stage. A hit, a miss, a miss, and a miss.

09-14-1995: Top Ten Surprises in "Central Park West" - 5. Entire show packed top-to-bottom with "you might be a redneck if..." jokes.

09-14-1998: Cindy Crawford is a guest, promoting "Sex with Cindy Crawford."

09-14-1998: Dave mentions Team Rahal's racing victory and the Late Show's Emmy win. We see clips of both. Rob Burnett forgot to hug his wife at the Emmys so he does it on the show.

09-14-1998: Top Ten Things Overheard at the Emmys.

09-14-1999: "Kid Scientists" includes one with a homemade blow torch.

09-14-2000: Secret Service preparation for the Gore appearance: nametags, frisking, the sweatshop is closed down, and George Clarke shoves a bear back into the elevator.

09-14-2000: Vice President Al Gore is a guest. We get a fake clip of him dissing Letterman ("that show is so lame"). He stays three segments, and reads the Top Ten Rejected Gore/Lieberman Campaign Slogans - 6. We know when the microphone is on.

09-14-2000: Warren Zevon sits in with the band.

09-14-2000: We see video of Secret Service preparation: nametags, frisking, the sweatshop is closed down, and George Clarke shoving away the guy in a bear suit.
