01-07-1983: A 90-minute Friday night special: Andy Kaufman hugs everyone on the staff and in the audience, then later brings out his parents, as all three sing "Row Row Row Your Boat." Andy follows that performance with a phone call to his grandma in Hollywood, Florida.

01-07-1984: Dave, Paul and members of the Late Night crew spend the weekend taping remotes in St. Thomas.

01-07-1985: 1984 Leftover Comedy bits include two items from the NBC Bookmobile: _The Himalayas by Shopping Cart_ and _The Great Event: Allistaire Cooke's Second Annual Giant Tractor Pull._

01-07-1986: Marv Albert promotes his brother Al's chocolate hockey pucks; at the end of his segment, while going into a commercial break, Dave asks Marv under the audience applause, "Are these any good?" Marv: "No." Also, Brush With Greatness includes meeting Andy Williams in Leningrad during a filming of "Lifestyles of the Rich and Famous."

01-07-1988: Chris Elliott is Marlon Brando for the final time. In tribute, he plays a retrospective montage and leaves for "the island" with his houseboy "Jukunta," Chris making sure the accent is on the second syllable.

01-07-1992: Dave calls John Amirante, who performs the National Anthems before each hockey game for the N.Y. Rangers; he sings "O Canada" on the phone. Later, Dave is thirsty, so bicylist Danny Grayson buys a Coke from the soda machine on the 7th floor and rides his way down the stairs into the studio on the 6th to deliver it to Dave.

01-07-1993: Set Designer Kathleen Ankers makes her debut appearance as Peggy the Foul-Mouthed Chambermaid, a character she'll bring with her months later on CBS.

01-07-1993: Top Ten Excuses of the Home Alone Parents - 4. Just for the sake of argument, suppose the kids were hats. Now, there's nothing wrong with leaving a couple hats at home, is there?

01-07-1994: A week earlier Marvin Hamlisch was in Las Vegas with Barbra Streisand. Tonight he's onstage at the Ed Sullivan Theater with Peaboy.

01-07-1994: Top Ten Good Things About Having the Flu - 6. Fact that you're teeming with parasites makes you feel like Cher.

01-07-1997: Dave talks about a WCBS radio report on people recalling the Blizzard of '96 (one year ago).

01-07-1997: Guest Norm MacDonald has laryngitis and does "sit-down" comedy about cats.

01-07-1997: It's the King of Meat contest, as Rupert Jee competes with Amando Vasquez at the Stage Deli, guessing how much meat to slice for an allotted weight. In a controversial decision, Amando wins, but a rematch is promised.

01-07-1997: Top Ten Other Toys Being Discontinued by Mattel - 4. Barbie, Ken, and Ken's Longtime Companion, Matthew.

01-07-1998: Fake clip of islanders chasing Bill and Hillary Clinton. Also, "New Books" bit.

01-07-1998: Guest Norm MacDonald enters from the audience's right and talks about being fired from Weekend Update.

01-07-1998: Leon Pendarvis sits in for Paul again.

01-07-1998: Paul Simon appears to promote his short-run Broadway flop "Capeman." (Wasn't this on Jan 8 1998?)

01-07-1998: Taped message from the Mayor's Office to pedestrians.

01-07-1998: Top Ten President Clinton Tips for Keeping the Romance in Your Marriage - 1. A little dab of ketchup behind each ear.

01-07-1999: Guest Terry Bradshaw is on for the second straight night.

01-07-1999: Late Show is now called "Dave Letterman's Countdown to the Millennium".

01-07-1999: Late Show Viewer Profiles: Swedish guy Spenker Alderon. Also, Top Ten William Rehnquist Pickup Lines.

01-07-1999: Tonight's Know Your Current Events contestants are a family doctor and a "Y2K accountant".

01-07-2000: Campaign 2000: "People" magazine called.

01-07-2000: CBS Mailbag Letter #2: After seeing "Stuart Little", Dave wants to dress Paul up like a mouse.

01-07-2000: CBS Mailbag: (1) Don King used a hair-dryer while sleeping? (2) After seeing "Stuart Little", Dave wants to dress Paul up like a mouse; (3) "Interim Russian President Vladimir Putin" does a Russian dance; (4) at New Year's, a Lincoln statue zaps Tom Jones and makes him disappear.

01-07-2000: CNN is apparently somewhat biased when reporting on the Ted Turner/Jane Fonda separation. Also, Top Ten Features of a Really Scary Haunted House. (News item: someone sued because a haunted house was too scary.)

01-07-2000: Late Show QB Challenge with guest Ray Lucas (play-on music: "Jet") is done indoors with champagne bottles.
