Message:Very concerned about this article in "Star" on Susan Richardson "crackin-up". It seems that this was an exclusive interview w/ photos, quote from Susan and all. I hope she's ok. I worked with her in an episode of the show as a kid and I'd really like to read her book if she ever follows through with it. Also...I was sorry to read the update on Lani that she is no longer acting. I took classes from her at a commercial workshop in Sylmar and she has really inspired me. I've gotten plenty of gigs after that and a couple of films. Is there any chance that she will be returning to acting? I wish I could return some of the inspiration she has given me. I wish both Lani and Susan well.

And the story also sparked interest in a movie about her real life!

I loved Susan on EiE and thought she was a beauty, but I wish she would go back to her redhead color. I know she's probably been a blond since 1979, but the color just isn't as flattering. When I saw her with that bleached blond hair after she married Merle, I couldn't believe it. On Entertainment Tonight, she was blonder than ever...I think her comeback would be enhanced by a hair makeover. But I do wish her all the best. JMHO.

Actually, she did return to her roots, so to speak in the early 1990's. "Entertainment Tonight" featured a naturally redheaded Susan on a Where are they now? segment. Based on other things I've seen, she must have returned to the blond shade sometime in the mid 90's. You're right about her being many times more attractive as a redhead. The sad thing is that you can sort of tell that she now does it herself b/c it has that multi-colored, unprofessional look about it. I have to admit, that I did think it was interesting that she couldn't afford to eat anything but handpicked berries, but that she could manage to keep up her dye job.

Hopefully ET will have the Susan story uploaded on their site at http://www.etonline.com/.I got the ET interview on tape and I'm planning to upload it as a Real Audio file in case you missed it.
She mentioned that she is working on a autobio book. Sounds like she's been through a really rough ride for the past two decades from what I been reading and seeing. Susan deserves a better life after all that she went through. I'll link Susan's book to Amazon.com from my websites once it's released.
Why her weight bothered the producers is a complete shock to me. I always thought Susan was one of the most popular actresses on the show. Kind of plucky, tomboyish, energetic, but somehow this real life version of what Peppermint Patty as an adult would've been like stuck. She looked fine. I just don't care about how much who weighs, it's the person inside that matters.
Susan, if you're reading this, you have many more fans than you realize and we all wish you well in getting your life back on track.

I was amazed at what all she has been through and so very impressed with her courage. It had to have been a scary thing to let ET film her personal life. I hope everyone who watched that segment felt the same way I did- proud. Success isn't based on how much money you have, it's based on happiness. It's a pleasure you came. I do recall Susan calling Jeff Probst on Backchat on the fX channel about someone's question regarding canned laughter, and she also mentioned that she was working on doing some music for Breakfast Time.
Has she been able to get her musical career off the ground? Perhaps releasing some samples on the Internet and getting some radio disk jockeys to hear some of them could help the programmers decide if they want to ask for the songs to be played, and the listeners could get samples to help them decide to buy the music.
If Susan or anyone has related websites I don't have listed in my EiE Links page, please let me know and I'll happily add them in.

Message:OK, so I'm interested to know what you thought of Susan's hair after she bleached it blond.... It seems like every Bradford girl (including Eliz in the later reunion movies and Abby at one point later in her career) dabbled in blond hair at one time or another...or at least highlights. Most of them later returned to a darker shade.

Susan's yellow/blond hair color is pretty bad, but the style is so unbecoming. If she'd lost at least 1 ft. of the length and pulled those heavy bangs off of her face, she would have looked so much better. I don't think that do was even in style in 1981! Joannie and Nancy's perms were more the rage then.

When the show ended in 1981, Susan chopped it all off for a punk do, Wendy O Williams I guess she was making the do after, and missed out on the part in the upcoming role in Love Sydney featuring a gay man to Swoosie Kurtz. Guess she either decided to go wild or she had a hard time when her show got canned.

On the reunion movie airing this Saturday on PAX, notice Susan's hair extensions. The bangs are real, but the rest is sooooo fake. Her hair was very short at the time. In the 1989 flick, she appears sans extensions.

It was funny when in the episode where Merle finally finds Susan after a long search, Merle walks up to the door, Susan answers, Merle asks her "Do you know how many Bradfords there are in Sacramento?", and Susan answers "If you came all the way to ask me that, the answer is 42!"

The Hitchhikers' books are authored by Douglas Adams, who shares the exact same birthdate as the actress who plays Susan, 3-11-52!
