Connie Needham on EIE special.
Monday, 07-Aug-00 10:55:19
Is it true that when Connie was cast as 13 year old Elizabeth, she was at the ripe age of 17?
I thought Elizabeth was 14. Also got to admit, that when you see the various episodes, Elizabeth look a hell alot more that 14. Her face looks more like a older teen. Also her body is very well form, of course she took ballet class and that helps alot, but still.
Afet all these years, Connie still looks great, glad she came out of it well with fond memories. Kind of miss that beautiful long hair. But still beautiful. She is so feminine, that long hair, beautiful eyes, soft voice and that cute nose of hers.
Connie looks like a really good mother. Understanding & kind, yet firm and "can't put one over mom" look. I read she has 3 teenager daughters and that will keep you on your toes!
Nice to see her again after all these years.God speed to her!

It seems that Connie, Dianne Kay and Laurie Walters were the only one of the group who didn't have problems with drinking and drugs, etc. (other than Joan Prather, Brian Patrick Clarke and Dick van Patten).

I thought that Connie Needham looked absolutely fabulous on the E! True Hollywood story special. As a young girl, Elizabeth was always my favorite charecter on the show and I'm very happy to see that she seems to be so contented and happy with her life.

I think just about everybody (except Tom, Abby, and Nicholas) was a bit older than the character they played.

A job done rather well

All in all, I think they did a pretty good job with their coverage. I was dreading that they might have raked the cast over the coals for their various missteps. I was glad to see they took a rather compassionate tone in their production. They didn't come down hard on Susan Richardson as so many tabloids have lately. While they had to agree that her story was "bizarre" they never made look like any kind of a lunatic. Troubled perhaps, but not to be mocked. As for the adventures of Adam Rich and Willie Aames, they were also sensitive to the human being behind the struggles.
Of course we all would have wanted it to be longer, and it sure would have been nice to see Laurie Walters, Grant Goodeve, or Lani o'Grady, but you had to know we could never be totally satisfied.
All in all, I thought they did a nice job. Not sensationalized as I was fearing.

Susan on E!
Monday, 07-Aug-00 13:22:20
Susan looked great on the show. She has been through so much, and for her to look the way that she did was amazing. I of course wish her all the best. I ahve not spoken to her lately, and I would like to make a comment on how she felt about the show. I have no comment.
Dianne Kay on "E!"
Monday, 07-Aug-00 14:38:56
I was hoping to see a lengthier interview with Dianne Kay on "E!". I was interested in knowing what she is doing presently, and was curious to know if she is indeed the "Dianne Kay" that sells the dollhouses. Though she didn't seem very happy during the interview, she still looked pretty. If anyone has any info on her present situation please post.

I see on the IMDB that Dianne Kay is living in L.A. and is a full-time mother. If you are reading this, Dianne, I am currently casting for Quentin Tarantino's current project, which will begin shooting here in Los Angeles in Fall. Please contact me by email, we'd like to get your career back on track.
Laurie Walters

I'm curious about your source for the Laurie Walters/Grant Goodeve affair tidbit
It makes sense now thinking about it.
I had a big crush as a teen on Laurie/Joanie when the show was on.
Wish she had continued her career.
Glad to hear she is happy and married.
With children?

Neither appeared on the E! show, but they were on the Inside Edition show and they both admitted to it. I think Connie and Willie dated as well.
Dianne Kay Looking Like Diana Hyland?
Saturday, 12-Aug-00 00:42:19
I just found this website by accident. I typed in the name of the tv show and added a dot com to the end, and it appearred! I didn't think Eight was that popular, but thanks.
I saw the E! special sunday, and it got me thinking about the similarities between tv mom Diana and tv daughter Dianne. The resemblences are very similar with Dianne looking like she could be a sister for Diana from 20 years ago at her same age.
But what I couldn't understand about the E! special is that they never explained WHY was the show cancelled? Salaries? End of contracts? Writers strike? Profits? Being opposite of Barbara Mandrell's then-hot country variety show?
Any clues?

according to E! True Hollywood, the show wasn't doing too well in the ratings so it was pulled from the fall line-up.
Monday, 14-Aug-00 12:01:49
Yeah, you're right, Diana and Dianne did look a bit similar. I also thought Dianne bore a strong resemblance to the lady who played Auntie V. They could have been real-life aunt and niece.
I never knew why the show was cancelled, I was really disappointed about it, though. I figure they were running out of ideas for the show, or maybe the cast was getting tired of doing it. Too bad there were never any spinoffs.

They said the show was Number 18 after it's last season, and it is very rare for a top 20 show to be cancelled. I think that the cancellation was a result of several factors: The actors had contracts for five years, which had expired, and of course due to the popularity of the show they would all be renegotiated at much higher salaries than before, which would raise production prices considerably ("Eight is Enough" was already one of the most expensive hour-long shows to produce at the time, due to the number of actors and it's single-camera filming technique), and ABC probably just thought that the show wasn't cost effective since it was beginning to slip a bit in the ratings.
Diana Hyland's Cancer Type?
Sunday, 27-Aug-00 02:48:37
I am writing this e-mail in hope of finding someone who knows the name of the cancer that Diana had when she past away.
The reason I am asking is because I recently saw the "Entertainment News" bio on the Eight is Enough seris and they had a segment on Diana and her sudden death with cancer. The segment mentioned some symptoms that just made me think this maybe the answer to this illness of my wife. She has been feeling tired and with severe back pain for the last three years.
Maybe by some miracle this information may just save my wife. Please, any information would be grateful.
Many thanks and prays,
David

I couldn't help but wonder if possibly John Travolta played a role in Diana's death. I don't know if he was a scientologist or not then, but they are opposed to many medical treatments, aren't they? And she did die at home, not in the hospital. I just hope he didn't persuade her to forego treatments she needed.
