The EiE Webmaster's Monthly Report July 2000

Hello friends:
Well, it's been some month in June.
First off....I didn't need to take my car down for repairs for the first time in months. Yay! The bad news? This week, I had to replace the four balding tires. Tires do get...tired, of course.
I went to Burger King last month and ate their french fries, which I thought were the worst tasting fries I ever eaten. Then I got nauseated and threw them all up into the garbage can. I also broke out in red dots all over my face for about a week! Have it WHOSE way? Never again!
There have been no updates to the Eight is Enough page except for some Laurie Walters in the EiE Bio section. No new pictures I swiped from ebay last month.
This month, I got two birthdays to remember. One, my dad's, and two, Crazy Jay's in Orange. Cards were just sent today.
Anyone try watching Survivor. After the first 15 minutes, my interest was booted off the island. I guess I like faster-paced contests.
Anyway, the host of Survivor is that former Backchat host on fX, Jeff Probst.
Once again, those summer movie hypesters are out in full force. Wonder how long it would take for most of them to appear on free broadcast TV?
A lot of theaters are just not worth your trouble with fatty snacks I cannot eat and rude people who never shut up so I can follow the dialogue.
Who wants to pay $9 to sit somewhere where you're not the boss?
San Diego has been mildly humid so far, but our electric rates have tripled since the electricity went into deregulation. Also, guess how much an average new house costs here? Over $200,000! What are we? Beverly Hills?
It was warm and muggy here. I drove to Palm Springs over the weekend and it was 105 and dry. Well, at least it was dry heat!
Things are a bit slow at my job since everybody is at the fair or the beach or the stadium nowadays. Can't wait until fall.
Hope you all are doing fine now. Hopefully I'll get some EiE submissions for my website whenever possible.
Take care.

Hi, Dave, nice to hear from you! Sorry to hear about your french fry experience; sounds like you had an allergic reaction. Personally, I think MacDonald's has better fries, although you couldn't pay me enough to eat their burgers! (And to think I LOVED 'em as a kid!)
My hubby and I just had a nice weekend in the Finger Lakes region of New York State. It's a beautiful area, and the weather was great, sunny, in the 70's, and no humidity!
Yes, I've seen Survivor a few times. Personally I think those folks are a bit crazy. The last time I watched it, they had to eat these big fat disgusting bugs! I think I'd be begging to be voted off the island! If I want to win a million bucks, I'll go on Who Wants to be a Millionaire? I'd rather answer questions than eat bugs any day.
Haven't had a chance to see EiE on TV lately, our Saturdays have been too busy. I miss having it on during the week in the evenings when we could watch it while we were eating dinner. I have really been enjoying the role play stories, it's gotten kind of like watching a soap opera, I can't wait to see what's going to happen next!
Well, gotta run now. Take care, and have a great rest of the summer!

Hello friends:
What a weird month I had.
To begin with, San Diego became the first city in the nation to have unregulated electric rates.
We all thought that with some competetion the rates would go down, right?
WRONG! My electric bill is triple of what it was last August! $250 for all of the month! To make matters worse, our electric grid almost reached a crisis to trigger controlled electric brownouts in order to reduce power consumption. In a hot and muggy San Diego, everybody who had an air conditioner used it whether they were home or not, and that added to the problem. That's what happens when a local electric company sells their power plants to a corporate owner from out of state who can dictate how much electricity should cost. It now averages about $20 a megawatt, with a cap of $500 a megawatt during peak periods. Who can afford to run a 10kilowatt air conditioner for $5 an hour?
This is what happens when California doesn't have enough power plants and has to borrow from neighboring states such as Texas and Arizona, who too are trying to borrow power from somewhere else.
Anyway, we're not getting some refunds in place. Whoopee. $200 or whatever.
A disaster happened near my workplace at Domino's today. At a nearby liquor store, part of the ceiling collapsed. Hopefully nobody was hurt, but the store remains closed until the landlords get some clues and spend some money on leaking roof repair crews who know how to do the job right. The weakness of the wood suggested that rain over time softened it enough to a point where it couldn't support its weight anymore.
Well, to end it on a lighter note, I went to a concert with several friends from the Internet and saw novelty song wizard Weird Al Yankovic perform at SDSU Open Air Theater. He performed about 27 songs and parodies more or less and the crowd just ate it up. Afterwards, I managed to meet him and get an autograph. He sang a song "Dare to Be Stupid" and I did pay for free parking without knowing that it was free. Duh!
Looking forward to the E! special this sunday. Get those tape machines going. :-)

Hello all:
After 42 months of service, I finally decided to replace my slow 200MHz MMX computer. The modem on the old SONY computer was one of the worst I've ever had, since it kept slowing down to a crawl and disconnecting from the Internet.
I plunked down $2000 for a loaded Hewett Packard computer. I put the features together myself. I have 192 MB RAM, DVD, CD-RW, and multimedia stuff. Works great.
Now, I have a new 800MHz computer that has a much better modem. In fact, after listening to a dance mix from wflz.com 3000 miles away for over an hour, I haven't had any hiccups or disconnects. The new computer also crunches my files much faster, about 6 times than the old computer did. The web browser works better too.
The bad news? The old DOS games I've had since I had the old 25MHz computer work way too fast on the new computer to play. As soon as I start the game, I'm killed after a 1/10th of a second! The asteroids go about 100 times too fast to play!
I also had to get a new VCR. The old one had Erica Kane for lunch as it ate the edge of the tapes. So much for everyday taping.
The football season is finally here again. Not that I care for the game, it's because people are watching the games on TV, and that means people are ordering pizzas, and that means $$$$$ in tips for my hard work.
Don't forget. My mailing address is on the page if you want to send a postcard or note.
Anyone know how Susan is doing? Tell her we miss her and wish her the best.
peace
